Actually pretty neat idea to create cards with woodblock prints, I own three traditional Japanese woodeblock prints myself. I just wonder that why isn't he doing a small number of full decks but instead 3 different card prints from 3 different type of playing cards.

I actually wouldn't mind a full custom deck with original design done by woodblock printing. The more I think of it, the more appealing it sounds.

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.

Wasn't this more or less the idea behind the collaboration between Thornwillow Press and He Who Must Not Be Named?

As a hanafuda player I'm somehow offended that the hanafuda triptych isn't Boar-Deer-Butterfly....

Very nice; I agree that a deck made form linocut art would be amazing. Expensive... but amazing.

Thanks for spotting these; I'm in.

Woodcut and linocut are sort of the opposite of intaglio in terms of how the printing process works. In intaglio, the ink comes from the parts of the plate that have been carved. In woodcut and linocut, the ink comes from the parts that have not been carved away. Typically intaglio prints can be much more detailed.

I know of a couple of people who are currently doing handmade linocut decks ... tarot decks. Not sure exactly what is available at the moment.

Sullivan Hismans: https://www.tarotsheetrevival.com/en/home/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (copies of very early tarot decks)
Bertrand Saint-Gullain: http://www.saintguillain.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This was just on KS, again it is tarot, but I think the deck here is digitally printed copies of the linocut prints. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/38 ... e-esoteric" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I know Simon Wintle (of WOPC) made a woodcut deck of playing cards relatively (!) recently. A copy of an old English pattern deck. I think they are still available to buy: http://www.wopc.co.uk/woodblock/replica" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am sure others are doing similar.
