1983 myself. Everything I have ever saw said that Gen X ended in 1982, and people born in 1983-2000 are Millennials.ICantShuffle wrote:They're not direct references, so how are you counting?
1984 reporting in. I always thought/was told I was a millenial. Oh well.
So far I noticed:
from the opening the DIC production fluorish
GI Joe
Thundercats
Silverhawks
Transformers
Dude looks like Shredder from TMNT
Jem and the Holograms
He-Man
She-Ra
Pretty much everything the used to be on Super Sunday as well.

There's nothing to hate, everybody is different and born into different circumstances within every generation. Progress must be made and society must change, if this doesn't happen our species will not survive, so get used to it. Besides there are plenty of studies showing the many ways millennials and post-millenials are doing better than the previous generations, including less self-destructive behaviour, despite the mess of issues and insane inequality they've been left to deal with. A person 80 years ago couldn't even conceive of the complexity of modern life today, being born into that will of course shape you somewhat.vasta41 wrote:and I hate Millennials

Such a typical Millennial responseAdonael wrote:There's nothing to hate, everybody is different and born into different circumstances within every generation. As for the deck, being a 90's kid, it's a little before my time, but I do appreciate the excellent artwork!

Pretty spot on! There are also a couple of references to 80s movies with some of the designs themselves, including Robocop, Aliens, Terminator, etc.ICantShuffle wrote:They're not direct references, so how are you counting?

Welcome to UC! My thoughts on the character bios are, "wow that must have taken a lot of time!" Which is a good sign to me- proves you spent a lot of time on this. And it shows! Like I said before the only gripe I have is that the front and back borders don't match. It's not that big of a deal and there are many decks out there like that. In most cases I suggest a white border around the back but not in this case- the full bleed purple looks great. My next suggestion would be to make the front borders purple too but again, in your case I also don't think that would work. So all I can say is I still love it!BloodandChrome wrote:Thanks so much for posting about this deck! I'm the designer and animator of this project, and I had an absolute blast working on this and am so stoked that it's finally out! Please feel free to ask me any questions about it, I'm happy to answer![]()
As for the millenial discussion, quite interesting! It does seem that there is some contention as to who belongs to which generation, I suppose since I was born in 81 that makes me one. I hope that doesn't count against me haha.

I did my best however to offset the straight up reference-fest with some interesting lore for each suit (factions) and each character's bio. I'd actually love to know what everyone here things about those, it's all there on the kickstarter to read. Indeed there are nods to all kinds of tropes from the era, but I hope I managed to put enough of a spin to make it interesting.
Once again, thanks for the post on here. I'm new to the world of playing cards but since working on this project my interest has begun to increase. Looking forwrard to learning even more.

Hahaha, amazing. That's about the order I would expect from anyone! Thank you so muchvedus wrote:When I checked it out initially my thoughts were, roughly in order:
* this is ridiculous
* the artwork is so cheesy
* it's just a bit over the top

* I love it
* price is good
* welp, I guess I'm backing this....

Absolutely! On top of being a BSG fan, it seemed to fit perfectly with what I dorousselle wrote:"BloodandChrome" -- a direct reference to Battlestar Galactica?

I'll admit I don't know anything about this because I don't have any friends with kids, or have them myself yet! My childhood in the 90's/00's does seem different to today's, but I can't tell if that's because of too much coddling/overparenting now or just the difference between growing up in the country vs the city (I've found city people my age have way less stories from their youth than I do, and none of mine even involve alcohol because I don't drink lol), probably a bit of both. Either way, I hope not to be raising my own in the city, to be in a position where we can live far enough out for some open space.vasta41 wrote:However, when I lost a soccer game as a kid, I LOST. I would LOVE to see this artist do a follow up 90's deck! Great idea. P.S. I lived in the city (Boston) my whole life, didn't drink (making up for it now!), and had PLENTY to do.Adonael wrote:I'll admit I don't know anything about this because I don't have any friends with kids, or have them myself yet! Anyway I'd love for a 90's themed deck just like this. I'm thinking the stuff I watched like DBZ, Swat Katz, Street Sharks, Zoids and Spawn! Don't even get me started on the early 00's

That's not a bad idea. I admit I was already a little older by the time the 90s cartoons came about, but I still remember a bunch of them. I'll definitely take this idea into account!vasta41 wrote: Anyway I'd love for a 90's themed deck just like this. I'm thinking the stuff I watched like DBZ, Swat Katz, Street Sharks, Zoids and Spawn!
