Rare Triumphs

Unread post by shimmering »

Hello all, I just launched my new project on Kickstarter. It's a 78 card tarot deck and is a followup to my Pike and Clover cards. Here's the link:

I was just going to mention this campaign is live. Since I really like the Pike and Clover deck, I am in for a tarot deck as well. Although, I really don’t normally collect tarot decks.

Nice, like the old style feel of the deck. However, any chance of adding on your other decks to save on S&H on this KS? That would be a really cool addon and help reach the target.

Was very happy with their previous campaign. This is an easy one to back. Like others, I don't collect *many* tarot decks, but as companion decks to the poker decks I've already collected, youbetcha.

Yes it's an idea isn't it. I'm thinking about how best to do it.

I made a couple of additions to the project that might be of interest.

I added a combo level including a deck of Pike and Clover playing cards.

If you read the project when I posted originally last week, perhaps you saw that I mentioned gaming. I suppose playing card fans might be interested in this aspect, so I'll write a little bit more here. Perhaps many people are unaware of tarot cards as gaming cards (still widely used in some European countries). Or the significance of the trump suit as an ordered sequence of cards designed to be easily recognisable so that we know which card beats which card in gameplay.

So I added an extra: that all backers should receive a ready-to-print set of rules for tarot as played in France (the form of the game I am most familiar with).

I really like the Pike and Clover deck, so I am happy I get a shot at having one, and I want to support this tarot deck.

When you said use the tarot deck for gaming, initially, I thought you meant D&D. We used to create characters/backstories using tarot decks to come up with ideas for characters. It's also a useful writer's tool, if you like to write fiction (which, basically, playing D&D is essentially collaborative fiction writing).

10 pound for shipping to the U.S. is a little rough, but, then again I'm usually the one getting spoiled by cheap shipping. In for a penny... in for a pound, I guess.

So skulls and bones and skeletons seem to be a popular thing for some playing card fans .... remember death .... I guess occasionally this kind of imagery becomes almost unavoidable.

When your neutral-evil Cleric gets bored and casts Animate Dead to pass the time playing cards.

I like it.

im pretty sad this looks like it probably wont fund. I love the pike and clover deck and having this as a companion deck of sorts would be ever so nice.

Yeah, I really want to see this deck, plus I missed the original Pike and Clover campaign, so this is my chance to get one. The Tarot deck looks like you get more of what I liked in Pike and Clover, so I was really excited for it.

Yeah, I too am going to be sad if this doesn't fund. However, you can still get Pike and Clover and his earlier deck, Viceroys, through him directly. Here is a link to his website: http://www.northerndisplayers.co.uk/index.html#cards. I picked up Vicroys from his website a few months ago as I missed that kickstarter.

I guess I'll go that route, I was just hoping I'd save a few bones on shipping, plus 2 decks > 1 deck.

Sad reality....I understand and know the effort it takes to create a tarot deck...a custom playing card deck is way easy, and here you are talking about old world design charm & a full 78 poker sized card deck which complements one of his previous decks. Because it is poker sized and not usual tarot sized deck, it can find a place easily in the collections of playing card collectors.
Creating a tarot is basically the Iron Man of custom card design.

I am not saying this, Peter Dunham (Uusi) said this years ago.

Anyone know some rich secret society or something that can rescue this campaign like someone did for the Mamluk Deck?

Brad,

You mean you can't just pledge for 87 decks?
