Let's all stipulate the obvious: anything can be used properly to great effect, and anything can be mis-used to poor results. So within the context of proper usage and execution, I don't think anything has greater visual impact than foiled cards at this point. Metallic inks used to be a joke, but while metallic inks have greatly improved in recent years, only the USPCC use metallic inks that have significant impact, but they still don't rise to the level of foil.

I'm with the camp that is over gilding. Sure, it looks nice, and we are seeing more diverse usage of gilding with more colors than just silver and gold, and we've even seen holographic applications. But that visual impact is so static, it really only looks good in an unused stack. The moment you begin to actually use the cards, most of the visual impact is gone. Sooner or later, the gilding will wear off and then it looks really bad. And and any visual impact is more than offset by the poor handling that gilding inevitably produces. You basically have two groups of people, those who open and use decks, and those who keep decks sealed for collecting purposes. Given the high pricing of gilded decks, most collectors keep their decks sealed, so they can't even appreciate the visual effect of gilding anyway except vicariously from longingly gazing at the pictures of the pretty renderings from a Kickstarter campaign, which I think is pretty sad. And for those who are users of decks, you have the aforementioned practical downsides of gilding.

I mostly agree on gilding. A gilded deck is what drew me into this crazy hobby but has kind of lost its luster 5 to 10 gilded decks later. I will still go for it if it fits the theme and isnt too expensive.

Foil on the other hand, I cannot get enough of. I cannot think of nearly any tuck that wouldn't benefit from some use of foil. Especially foil and embossing. Most flat glossy tucks just look blah to me. Especially flat glossy tuck decks that are being sold for 15 bucks.

I can say that less for the cards themselves. It does have to make sense and be used in the right places and proportions. However, I cannot think of any decks I own, or have seen that have foil on the backs that i thought "it would be better without that foil there."

Are we hijacking this thread into a foil and gilding thread?

You're new here. This is a common occurrence . Some can get very negative, but usually it's all in good fun. Here's a couple of recent ones which got really silly. Go down a few pages for Lotrek's landshark deck. ;)

Gilding is so 2011. :)

Unfortunatly it made its comeback in late 2018 and since then is all over the place  .
But each to their own. If one likes it, great times for her/him. And it's not like there aren't enough beautiful decks without gilded edges.

The Parlour Playing Cards (TGW) -- LIVE on KS

Unread post by TheGentlemanWake »

Just to RErail the train. The Dynastinae deck will use Cartamundi’s new gilding process as seen on Ondrei’s butterfly deck which Lorenzo says handles great and can even be faro’ed.

What are the chances that we will be able to add on an extra Dynastinaw deck? :)

you’re gonna have to be very fast to click on the survey link. There are gonna end up being over 40 I believe. Maybe more. Depending on how many people decide to upgrade in the final days of the campaign.

I know many have stated they feel the mini doesn’t make “sense” within our campaign. But we wanted something small that felt like backers had an option not a necessity like a fifth deck might have felt like. Anyway we’re waiting on cartamundi quote to decide what to do. ImageImage
Brick tiers will almost assuredly get it free. Still working out math on other tiers.

I don't know why a mini deck wouldn't make sense in any KS campaign, much less for the Parlour deck? I love the idea of a mini deck! They're fun and practical, you can carry them around anywhere. I actually have a growing collection of just mini decks alone and I always snap up mini decks anytime they're offered.

IF the mini decks were to be produced... Will it be all 3 variants (Wine/Black/Blue)?

Mini decks are a bigger niche in the community so only very little would be interested for those who already has the mini ravn or the pluto deck this would be a great addition.

Not even gonna lie. I would totally be in for a mini. Missed that boat on the RAVN campaign and have been kicking my own ass ever since. I loved the addition of the Pluto mini on the Vanda Planetary series.

If it works, I would be delighted as well.

Money saved!

Uhh, I'm pretty sure this has been said but i forgot where to find it. But does anyone know if international backers have to add shipping on top of the extra brick for 140? or is 140 all emcompassing?

It's $35 for EU shipping unless you're from Germany. But they ship from Germany so there's no additional VAT and customs that would be something like another $50 on top of it all.

I mean for a brick addon to Canada. I think I remember them saying that addons don't need extra shipping costs.

Oh, I misunderstood. That's easy then: "IMPORTANT: Only backers in brick rewards can add a split brick for $140 without extra shipping costs." :)

When you consider all that you are getting included in that brick tier, it is turning out to be a big bargain, especially if you want a Limited Edition Dynastinæ Parlour Deck. Consider that a Collector's Set is just one of each four decks. For a regular brick, plus a Limited Edition Dynastinæ Parlour Deck, it comes to $170 or $85 more (US or Germany). For that extra $85, you get nine more decks which includes three of the cold foil Kickstarter exclusive Black decks. You also get an incredible brick box and now you get a mini deck, which costs $11 to add-on. If you can afford it, it is nice. Jody's bricks in his Luminosity campaign are also nice and also come with a custom brick box as well. That doesn't even discuss the other extras that both sets get included.
