Good question! So The Green Man is rarely ever actually green. The green part comes from the foliage that surrounds him, but usually he's carved out of stone or gold or bronze.

So in order to have two variants, we focused on the colours of the forest in different seasons, most prominently autumn and spring. So we have a kind of reddy/brown deck and a green deck.

We haven't settled on names yet, but the theme of the seasons will likely play a part.
Thank you for the explanation! I think I get it now. So in fall the green man looks like this:

Happy to report that people have started to received their Fillide decks, so we'll aim to launch next week.

Just need to confirm details of foils available before we do... but we definitely want to have this launched next week if possible.

Please follow us on Kickstarter if you don't already so you'll be notified when we do, although we'll give a few days notice via this thread, email, Instagram and Facebook of course.

Can't wait for this one!

Final mockups are coming together for the campaign. Here we have the complete Hearts suit, featuring a particular Nordic lord of the forest, our Elder witch and our Wizard who we shared earlier.

Full stories on these characters will be shared during the campaign. Our Kings are Lords of the Forest, mythical or spiritual beings said to rule nature in their respective cultures. Our Queens are characters who share an intrinsic bond with trees, plants and the Earth. Our Jacks are those who fell foul of the darker forces in the forest, never being seen again after their particular adventures.

(Note we've made a little change, shifting a couple of characters around to create a more coherent theme between the courts. The 'King' we showed previously is now a Jack :) )

Image

Launch times will be announced tomorrow, although it's likely to be the usual morning US/evening EU time for Tuesday 19th.

Early Birds will be time-limited to 12 hours, with one Super Early Bird limited to 6 hours. Larger early bird tiers will not just be discounted but will also have free shipping.

Any requests for Super Early Birds I'm all ears. It's Black Friday soon after all :)

If you have time, please check out the preview link and leave any feedback regarding typos or anything that isn't clear...

Thanks for sharing the pre-launch page with us!

The campaign looks fantastic, though I have a few thoughts:

- Many of your images simply aren't close enough to showcase the details. While I love the staging around the cards, I think a lot of the images could be cropped to let us have a closer look.

- Your number cards are fantastic. I don't remember seeing those on UC and they are lovely!

- Is there a way to render a tuck case with the embossing effect? The tuck boxes look flat at the moment, so it might help us visualize the final product if the image could show more detail.

- The campaign is PACKED with words - lots of words. It's not a bad thing. I think the lore and background are both important, but I would rearrange some details to have the cards, tuck boxes, add-ons, and stretch goals placed early on with much smaller chunks of words. You might lose someone's attention if they have to scroll too much. You might consider cutting back on the lore and adding more through updates. I've seen that approach a couple of times. It helps keep info manageable in the beginning, when people are looking for the basic info without having to work hard to find it.

- Will your stretch goals remain cryptic? I can appreciate the sense of mystery, but knowing the stretch goals ahead of time can often influence a backer.

Again, this campaign looks awesome and I know you already have success with KS. Regardless if you make any adjustments, you will do great with this one. Thanks for the interaction!

Do consider allowing addons for Jocu decks and other stuff at KS prices or close to KS prices. That is if logistics allows for it. There's always new backers or people who missed Jocu for 1 reason or another. This will also help with the funding goal as well.

We actually worked hard on this this time, and have chosen portrait shots for this reason. I will see if we can crop in closer on the backs and some single courts though as I think you're right, especially as most people are looking at it on a phone

- Your number cards are fantastic. I don't remember seeing those on UC and they are lovely!

Thank you! This has been one of many difficult points of contention for getting the design right and we're really happy with the result

- Is there a way to render a tuck case with the embossing effect? The tuck boxes look flat at the moment, so it might help us visualize the final product if the image could show more detail.

Another thing we improved on was the mockups for the playing cards themselves (there are no prototypes, all the card photos are mock-ups we created) but have been so far unable to do so for the boxes. It's a shame as there is a real disconnect especially now the card mockups look so nice! But we're going to work on this for our third campaign. I may stick an image of the fully finished Fillide boxes on there just to show people what's possible :)

- The campaign is PACKED with words - lots of words. It's not a bad thing. I think the lore and background are both important, but I would rearrange some details to have the cards, tuck boxes, add-ons, and stretch goals placed early on with much smaller chunks of words. You're right, I need a copyrighter  Ill be editing this down this afternoon. Best keeping detailed info for the booklet and the updates which will be more regular this time and share in-depth info for the courts and things.

- Will your stretch goals remain cryptic? I can appreciate the sense of mystery, but knowing the stretch goals ahead of time can often influence a backer.

We've gone with a higher goal this time, so we will be thankful just to reach it. That said, as we approach it, all stretch goals will be announced as like you say, it can help to give a push to a campaign when it needs it.

Again, this campaign looks awesome and I know you already have success with KS. Regardless if you make any adjustments, you will do great with this one. Thanks for the interaction!

Thank you for the feedback! We're on a tight turnaround thanks to the delays on the Fillide boxes so we appreciate your detailed feedback at a critical moment :)

We do intend on doing this in future, and it may yet make an appearance this campaign but long story short, this would move the campaign into 'selling' rather than 'fundraising' territory which for the Italian tax authorities would be a very significant (and expensive) decision to make at this time.

I think next year with the next project we will offer this, especially as the decks will be linked and will make sense to put together.

You can still get decks from our webshop and maybe we can find some way of making Fillide decks available too, but for now we need Green Man to fund on its own merit.

EDIT

Guys can I ask your opinion on EBs?

I had a query about them being inconsistent so I wanted to know your thoughts.

We have limited EB for double deckers at €18+shipping. These are limited to 15 backers.
Alternatively we have 12-hour EB on 4 Decks for €45 which include free shipping to US and EU. So whilst the cost per deck initially seems higher, the free shipping makes it a better deal.

Does this make sense? Or would people prefer an alternative setup? I always hate shipping costs so I'd rather it be a what you see is what you get kinda deal on the 4 decks rather than being hit for shipping.

Basically, what reads better? €45 free shipping or €40 + €6/7 shipping?

This is a great idea. I imagine it is difficult to render embossing properly, so this would be a great work-around to show the kind of tuck you can deliver.

That was me. Your response there helped me to realize I wasn't looking at the tiers closely enough. With free shipping included on the 4 deck tiers and above, this makes it clear that the more you buy the better the savings. Sorry for my ignorance.

Ah cool! No worries as I said on the comments it was a very valid point as if it wasn’t clear to you then it won’t be clear to other backers either.

I’ve slightly reduced that tier anyway as well as the six deck one as this campaign is very much for the collectors and they seem the most collector-friendly tiers. All feedback is welcome guys :)

We have some plans - trying a different kind of campaign model this time with a shorter period but more regular updates and little add-ons hopefully.

I'm not sure how well we're doing compared to Fillide. It seems we're ahead, as after 7 hours we hit €3900 / 99 backers, whereas we're at 4 hours and more or less the same point. The end goal is also around what we eventually got last time.

Hard to say though. it's not the best time of year but we had to work with it. People may also be holding off until they receive Fillide, although it's good that fulfilment is practically complete and everyone should have them before the campaign ends. Also some great feedback on that deck has been posted in the comments so will hopefully put minds at rest.

If you guys can share share share as much as you can - especially on places like Reddit where we are strictly limited to one post per project or on IG where it can get swallowed up amongst lots of other things.

Thanks for everyone who's supported so far!

This time we did matched shipping for EU/US and a flat rate for everyone, so everyone pays €7 (unless you got a free shipping tier).

EU shipping also get's the lovely Jocu packaging :)

I'm not sure I understand. I get €9 to Norway, including the free shipping tiers.

You legend, thank you for bringing this to my attention. Let me explain.

Shipping rates on Kickstarter are calculated by country, but conveniently the European Union can be selected as a shipping zone as generally eu shipping costs around the same.

However as Norway has a special relationship with the eu whilst not technically being in it, it evidently doesn’t fall into that category. However I didn’t know this.

When I shipped out fillide last week the post office flagged this, but it instead has a ‘zone 2 Europe’ shipping model along with other countries in Europe but not part of the eu, like parts of Russia and turkey who whilst not in Europe shouldn’t be too expensive to ship to as they’re next to it.

Anyway long story short, this tier isn’t much more expensive than the eu1 tariff, and should be included in free shipping (if applicable) or the lower rate EU/US shipping of €7. So in future I need to add Norway as a separate shipping zone and give it the same benefits as eu.

What tier did you back? I believe I can add shipping zones to existing rewards but not alter them, but I’ll see if I can add Norway manually to each tier and do so in future.

Worth noting for other creators who ship from the eu.

EDIT - I can confirm that I was able to add, not edit shipping tiers of existing rewards and have specified Norway as having the same costs as EU backers.

I'm not sure how this affects existing pledges but I imagine it doesn't affect them at all so you would need to re-pledge. If you have selected an Early Bird that is still available, that should be a simple case of changing your pledge. If it is no longer available, PM me.

I sent around four packages to Norway for FIllide so I know there are a few collectors there who could benefit from this especially if they chose a free shipping tier :) We'll sort something out anyway

That's great, Jocu! Thanks so much :)

I had a single deck EB, but I see now that I can switch to a 4 deck EB and selecting Norway no longer adds €9 for shipping :D Awesome!

For anyone who hasn't pledged yet, a single deck EB is now available :!:

EDIT: Curious if the other Norwegian backers (of Fillide) are collectors, I've never encountered any other collectors from here.

Single deck? What a heresy! :) I’m rather considering switching from 4 to half brick. Feeling like a rich man after giving up on today’s KWP deals. :D

Re: NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER The Green Man by Jocu Playing Ca

Unread post by Jocu »

Hey guys! So it's day 2 officially and we're slightly above both funding and backers for the same stage on Fillide, but that was a much busier period so I'm not sure how long that will continue.

I'd like to ask a favour of the community as it has been so instrumental in getting Fillide and The Green Man designed and made...

1. Please share the project on your IG or Facebook even if you only have a handful of followers. Stories especially are a good way of spreading the word and if you use a few popular hashtags even better.

2. If you haven't backed yet but plan to, please remember that your pledge sends a notification to all your KS followers, meaning more exposure for us. It's worth noting also that you have the duration of the campaign to change your mind - cards aren't charged until around a week after the campaign funds so even if you just do it for the promotional boost it'd be great :)

3. If you have any ideas of rewards you'd love to see added let me know. We have some things planned. but we need to know a rough estimate of numbers before we announce anything.

Thanks for everything guys!

1. Sorry, no social media here.
2. Already backed!
3. NOTHING!! I want cards, nothing else. Please focus on getting the decks funded before wasting time with add-ons.

Good luck!

RE: no. 3 I know, I feel the same way but the extras do help fund the deck. In fact we have more backers but slightly less money than at this point on Fillide as people had more things to pledge for.

The coins etc turned out really nice in the end though so we're glad we did it, but totally appreciate that many collectors aren't interested in them.

I just really hope this funds. Make sure to reach out to other designers on this forum for cross-promoting!
