anyone know what Lorenzo's first deck is called?

Unread post by bdawg923 »

Lorenzo (Stockholm 17) had a first deck in which he didn't design himself or something like that. I wanted to find more information about it but not sure what to Google.
Looking to buy (DM me if selling please!):
-Limbo v1 decks: Escape, Ennui, Cage
-2018 NPCCD: Green Pawn & Missing Island Prototypes

Yes. Justplayingcards posted the photo below not too long ago after finally being able to acquire one. Good luck if that is your objective. If you want information on the deck, he might be as good a source as any as he actually has the deck. Also, skooks88 also has this deck. I believe Lorenzo has some photos of this deck and the cards he created on his Instagram account.

Sweet! Eventually looking to buy one so I'll keep an eye out. I've read it's incredibly rare though. Thank you for your help!

What do you mean by it being a "first deck" that he didn't design? What was his involvement with it?

In this interview, Lorenzo describes his first deck design as The Alchemist, which was finally published in 2014 as the Heretic deck.

When did you start designing playing cards, and what got you started?

"I started in 2012 after getting inspired by a few custom decks on the market mostly by Theory11 and Ellusionist. The very first project was called "Der Alchemist", which then became "The Alchemist". I tried to sell it to Theory11, Ellusionist and HOPC. Theory11 didn't even reply, Ellusionist was somewhat interested but eventually they declined; I signed a contract with HOPC to produce it with another name (Oracle), but after one year of waiting and nothing happening I took it back, improved it, reworked it, and launched it on Kickstarter as Heretic Playing Cards. It was 2014."

The referenced deck was made before what was the precursor to the Heretic deck. It was designed by a company Lorenzo worked for at the time for one of their large clients. Some of the cards were designed by Lorenzo. I believe he went over that in some Instragram posts and probably elsewhere. I remember seeing the decks he made, and even then you can make out his style. I remember one of the cards vaguely reminded me of a characterization of Donald Trump.

Lorenzo posted a history of the NetEnt deck on his patreon recently as well for those interested.

His patreon is only $2 a month for basic access so subscribe for a month and see if it's your cup of tea.
