Did the originals only get released in Japan or was it a wider release?

You can/could get them from resellers (e.g. pokerstud52 aka Dave Hofmeister always has them) but originally they're Japan exclusive.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

You can grab them from overseas as well, if grabbing a few the shipping works out well

i managed to get the V1 from a French website (which had 27 decks for some reason) but the shipping and tax was a pain. Was hoping they might do the V2 through Penguin or someone. Oh well...

BTW for any Europeans, the site is called magicaplanet and still has some of the V1 for sale for 22euros.

I wonder why the decision to go bridge sized and use plastic cards. It doesn't seem like what I'd consider using for Texas Hold 'em.

Hadn’t noticed the bridge size - it is odd, but I wonder if its a popular option - they do a lot of in person shows and perhaps those move better?

Owl be sure to ask them if I ever swoop in.

Here's the translation of the caption on his instagram post:
I wonder if all the poker players who have wanted plastic until now will buy it. The quality is Copag, the bridge size, the jumbo index, so I made it a poker-specific type like no more. ‬
Maybe a part of his fanbase has been asking for plastic cards so he's catering to that market.

EDIT: Ooh I learned something new. Here's an answer from Vanishing Inc.:
When it comes to the best types of playing cards for poker, 100 percent plastic cards are the preferred choice. These high quality, professional playing cards are the same type you can find in casinos around the world.

Whenever I host poker games I use plastic cards but definitely not bridge size.

Had Emily Sleights done her Nocturnal deck with courts like these it would have been a slam dunk. Basically she is doing everything better than this deck except for the faces

I don't see that at all. Both have positive aspects but I can't say that Nocturnal looks better in any way. So far this deck is the winner by me and if her courts are her typical standards then it is not even close. What is it that makes Nocturnal better for you?

Using bridge size for poker has been the case for decades. Rather amusing actually. Basically bridge size cards are easier to shuffle and easier to keep hidden when you are looking at your hand.

It comes down to the art really. I much prefer Nocturnal on all accounts, except for the courts as mentioned.
A barcode on the bottom of the Bicycle Owl tuck makes it fall into the category of tourists gift shop crap.

Other than 310’s they seem to have all plastic on the Copaq site - the WSOP and texas hold’em decks are both plastic.

It is out of the norm, but as I have v1 it puts it back in play for me

Thank you for talking about the playing cards I designed.
I insisted on the highest quality for both the paper and plastic versions.
