WWI Centenary Deck - Now LIVE on KS

Unread post by samscott10 »

Hey guys, I will be releasing my new custom deck to kick starter on the 11th of October 2014.

I'll let the video do the talking but please, give us your honest comments. Thanks.

EDIT: Date.

Also guys, If I were too add custom dog tags as a reward, what do you think should be on them?

Name
Pledge date
Deck number

Would you want a dog tag as a reward?

A bit more cartoony than I thought but I'll reserve my final judgement for when the deck launches.

Looks interesting. I think the hearts could be America and diamonds Britain.

I like the sparing style, nice balance of elements. Many of the historical decks are over embellished which isn't necessarily bad, but this is a nice respite.

Not fond of the court transitions for 2-wayness. The back design, although very war like, isn't popping many of my kernels either.

The contrast of the "real life" photo on the tuck and the "cartoon" courts is terrible. The tuck looks like it belongs to a completely different deck of cards than this.

I think that the compass art on the box would make a much nicer back design that what he's made up.

I grabbed an EB with the deck and a coin but I'm most probably letting it go. I don't collect coins and they're charging more for shipping than with just a single deck. This is also the first time I've seen that the international shipping for the pledge for 2 decks is twice the shipping of the pledge for 1 deck.
And why does the JoH have a different background and everyone else shares the same background with their corresponding suit? And that back design is disappointing. I might just drop my pledge.

So much potential for a great deck but it's just falling short IMO. I'd love to back it, and like the use of poppies in the back design, but it just needs a rework. I don't mean to be harsh but looking at it, it looks like a first rough draft that needs some going over and development. Something as grand, romantic and horrible as the First World War was needs to be accordingly represented. There are small arms depicted on the back, but it was also the first real use on a grand scale of trenches, airplanes, machine guns and of course infamously chemical warfare. Yet at the same time it was one of the last wars to also include cavalry charges. There's so much material to draw upon here.

Hey everyone, I think you're all correct. I admit it was a little rushed and this is not my best work. If anyone would like to give me some tips or even work with me, Please feel free to message me. I would like to do the best job I can and to do that, I think I need to start listening to all of you.

Thanks

I will never understand why people decide to launch when those two glaring mistakes are still present on a project. What's the rush? Why not take your time to refine a design before launch? We're not going anywhere.

There's a TON of projects right now and it's only gonna got worse as the year ends. So a deck that's "rushed and subpar" will easily get ignored. Why not pull it, take your time to really make it work and launch once all the hustle and bustle is over.

I'm guessing it's a matter of faulty goal setting, mixed with some impatience and desire. If the goal in your mind is to launch a deck on KS, then rushed and "not my best work" will still get you there. However, a better goal would be to successfully fund a deck on KS, which should shift the focus from launching to doing it right.

Or probably because these designers aren't into the playing card hobby at the first place. I could be wrong though.

All I'm saying is you can't get to the moon by half assing a rocket ship. It's fine if you gave it your best effort and it didn't fly - back to the drawing board. But if you give it an "eh, good enough. Let's see what happens". Well that's just wasting everyone's time.

In this day and age, you can't expect a half cooked idea to fly. There's a lot of competition all over the place.

I certainly learnt it the hard way first time around
But right now I would love to pursue playing card design for the future if it is possible./

Some people believe in "Ready, Fire, Aim" which isn't going to fly on KS and certain parts of life. You have to do research and get educated before putting out something.
