I can shed some light on the pricing. Bottom line, the costs to produce decks have gone up steadily over the years, and special features (even ones that seem basic) cost a lot.
I started working on custom decks in 2008 and base pricing has risen several times since then.
With this particular deck, adding foil to the tuck was a tremendous extra expense, but we knew it would be worth it for the look and feel. We HAD to do one run with the super tucks.
The fact that these are a branded deck also increases the price. It simply costs more to run a Bicycle, Bee, Tally, etc with USPCC due to the cost of licensing their trademarked brand.
So while something like this didn't take months to design since it's using a classic existing design, the costs of producing it are very real.
Market demand will determine whether or not there is another run of these. There will definitely only be this one run with the foiled tucks. Any future runs will have a more standard tuck, at a price to reflect that.
With that said, I am extremely happy that we went with the foiled tucks - they look and feel terrific!

Got em! Thin stock, metallic inks plus the cool dichotomy of black and white make this a "Yes please!" for me. THANKS PENGUIN! (review live on my channel)

Re: White Tally-Hos from Penguin Magic
The single deck price is still 9$, not everybody can always buy them in bulks and not everybody is living in the US! Resellers in europe rarely give you that brick discounts as well. So if I want to save on the extremem USPS shipping costs, I will end up buying a few deck here in europe for 12-13€ a deckbadpete69 wrote:$6.5 a deck is expensive???? Do you want them for free??octave wrote:I like them, but I don't like the pricing. Seriously whats wrong with playing cards nowadays? I understand if some collector decks are a little bit pricier, but are limited then and have nice custom artwork, embossings or even foiling nowadays. The white Tally ho deck had a huge potential to be a nice workers deck. sorry but I really don't understand how a simple recolor is that expensive.
I really hope that there will be a cheaper unlimited version, maybe just with a simple white tally ho box without foiling? That would be nice.
Lets hope I find a cheap reseller

Re: White Tally-Hos from Penguin Magic
Kevin,
What kind of retail price drop would we see on the white Tally-Ho's be after the elimination of the foil tuck and the branding? I'm interested in working decks at the lowest cost. Branding and foil can go.

Re: White Tally-Hos from Penguin Magic
John - I hesitate to give any exact figures, as it'll depend on if there are price increases between now and then, the size of the future run (which would be determined by the popularity of this run, etc). Certainly at least a dollar less, hopefully more.
Worker decks are a tricky area - to get any deck (branded or not) at a $5 MSRP you either have to have razor-thin margins, which means no wholesaling or distribution, or you have to print a LOT of decks - which is a lot of up-front investment and risk.
And with the market always clamoring for more and more limited runs, doing those less-expensive worker runs is a tricky proposition.
We recognize that the market is split - our magician customers tend to favor less-expensive working decks that are more semi-custom with faces on the standard side. Our collector customers want more limited runs and more fancy features, as well as 100% custom art, and in those cases the price tag is usually going to be higher. We know that not every deck will appeal to 100% of customers, which is why you'll see a mix of options coming from Penguin. Some decks will be more on the magician side, others will be more on the collector side.
We have over a dozen deck projects in the pipeline right now, and are adding more all the time. We're just getting started!

Re: White Tally-Hos from Penguin Magic
Thanks Kevin. A ballpark figure was good enough. I realize you may not ever actually produce a non-branded Tally-Ho deck as it might reduce its appeal, but I was just curious.

Re: White Tally-Hos from Penguin Magic
Hi John. It will be impossible for us to ever produce a non-branded Tally-Ho deck. If we use one of those trademarked Fan or Circle back designs, we MUST include the Tally-Ho brand on it. USPCC is cracking down on the integrity and control of their trademarks now more than ever.
