I received both editions of the decks as well, though I must say that SFC has to find a better way to pack the decks so as to keep them safe during shipping buy using less bubble wrap as it is overkill and quite wasteful. When I ship any decks, I use a cardboard box and they come in multiple sizes, ones for single decks, two decks, three decks as well as larger for half brick and bricks. Don't get me wrong, I would rather receive a deck in perfect condition than not, but I still think that it could be done without using so much bubble wrap. :?

Hey @Shermjack - I'd raised it with SFC a no. of times about using less bubble wrap given I've been working with them for last 2 years. The reason they have given is that the workers in the factory have got their bonus tied with the number of packages that they ship daily. The only way to use less bubble wrap is to cut it during packaging and the workers will lose some amount of time to complete that operation which is a non-valueadd activity (I love when they use the TPS or lean manufacturing terms) for them. They receive bubble wraps of specific sizes from one of their vendors and there are not much variations in sizes available at their end. This is the only reason that they have been reluctant to adhere to my request of using bubble wrap in lesser quantity.

That said, my instructions to SFC are to pack single deck orders in bubble wrap envelope with the deck individually bubble wrapped as well while all 2 or 2+ deck orders are first individually bubble wrapped & then packed in a box. I remember Murphys Magic getting a 100+ deck shipment from me & I'd to empathize with them after they got the shipment with an endless supply of bubble wraps.

Well that's weird ... just checked the tracking on my cards. Apparently mine were delivered to my PO box on Tuesday, but the only "please pick up" card in the box dated Tuesday was from Thirdway.

All good Sunish, I can get to the PO tomorrow, (plus I'm on pretty good terms with the ladies at the hatch) just odd that there was -- AFAIK -- only one "please pick up" card.

EDIT: Red deck is in. How long should I wait for the other?

Yay...glad to know.

Heard from a few in NSW that they received the decks (from GW) this week and so, I think it should be there with you soon.

My decks just came in. I see what people have been saying about the bubble wrap. However, the box was battered, not being stronger cardboard. The cards came through fine since they were so well protected with lots of bubble wrap.

I did open one of the gilded decks. It is definitely not a cardist deck with exceptional handling. But great as a card collector deck. I really like your line work and restyle to fit the setting and theme of the deck. I also like the extensive research you did to make this deck. It was nice to see this other side to your artwork. Well done.

Thanks Brad. It took me a few weeks and all nighters to finish the summary of Kalevala. It was difficult for me to articulate it in such a short space and I do hope it adds more value to backers.

Hope you also open a standard or regular edition deck too, it is non gilded and produced by USPCC on Bee Stock with a traditional cut to check their handling while also comparing both decks side by side.

I just got four limited decks to keep my costs down some. I am not too sad about missing the USPCC decks as I am a collector, not a cardist. Although I can now better appreciate a nice handling deck than I could a year or two ago. I do like the booklet. That was a nice extra bonus you gave us.

Sorry Brad. I didn't check that you only have got limited edition decks with you. This deck was never intended for cardists in either editions. It is an art deck, hand drawn pen and ink style with one way courts so not sure if any cardist out there will be using it for flourishing. There are countless decks out there for cardistry. That said, even the standard or original edition printed by USPCC has a print run of only 1100 and it also gives everyone a chance to compare both editions done by WJPC and USPCC. You usually don't get to see that easily.

USPCC did a good job with the borders this time, I'm impressed with the thin borders (left one below is from Kalevala Standard edition done by USPCC)...and yes, card back is not same, there is a difference in the background color which blends well with the gilding in the limited edition deck...

Hear this folks - Väinämöinen's sword, Kalevala limited edition deck and Väinämöinen sotto are going to be the part of educational collection at National Museum of Finland :D :D :D

Received the email from the curator 3 days ago & had been working to send the items to the Museum.

Thanks to all backers who supported and made Kalevala project possible.

If even a few museum goers can get inspired through any of these products, and create something good, I'll feel both lucky and grateful for the chance to work on this epic.

The Finns will just petition for 200+ years to have it returned without success.

Good job Sunish, bypassing the middleman

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Also agree with Shermjack. If you can't, when you donate the items, do include a QR code or weblink to your site selling the decks!

The limited deck is getting very hard to find...just grabbed one on ebay for $38 which is a bit much, but I think this deck will be going up.

Though most of you must be aware of this but still thought of sharing that the biopic on J.R.R. Tolkien is releasing this summer with MAy 10 as the release date. In his formative years, young Tolkien was inspired by Kalevala and I am sure that the epic is going to be referenced in the movie for sure. Tolkien is Finnish director Dome Karukoski's first English language film which makes me a bit confident that Kalevala will be mentioned :)

Here is the trailer. Enjoy!!!
