Thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions...moving slower than I want to, but here is an update of sorts if your interested.

Sorry for the crappy image quality... my photoshop is down and trying to reduce the file size on my iPad sucks

Itching for another fix of your cool artwork, James. How are things going with the deck? Cheers!

Do you have an Instagram page?

Going slow but making progress. I actually have 5 pieces going at the same time, but figure I’ll post the othe two later...in the meantime, hope you like it so far , working on both the King and Queen of Hearts, as well as the King of Diamonds and Spades(I know it’s blurry, my iPad doesn’t take the best photos, sorry everyone)

And yes, I do have an Instagram page. It’s @jamesjohnsonstudios :D

Love this, hope you keep working on it. Reminds me a great deal of Wylie Beckert's Wicked Kingdom deck, another beautifully fine-art styled illustrative deck with the dual courts playing with the light and darkness of each character. If you finish this I am definitely in.

Thank you so much! Yes, I had bought a deck of Wylie's Wicked Kingdom as well as her book, definitely inspirational! I have loved old decks from the past, and as a way to torture myself, I figured "why not FINALLY make a different style deck of cards the way I thought people may like to see them" ....... keeping my fingers crossed people do :)

Another little update...

I have been working on 8 cards at the same time, all at different states of finish at the moment, so I figure I would spare you from them right now. Hoping that a visit to the Renaissance Festival this next weekend will give me some of the reference images I want for a few of the characters... but in the meantime, an update with the King of Hearts.

Once i get all the background details finished, Ill be rim lighting the vines and the King to make him pop to the front more... going for just a tad of Frankenstein lighting, if that makes any sense :)

This image is a bit brighter than the actual image, just so anyone with a dimmed screen can see as much detail as possible...

Had a garage ceiling come crashing down 2 weeks ago, so juggling between fixing that mess up and getting more card art done...

A little update on some work...

Thanks for keeping us updated. It calms the itch a little bit :D . I really dig that Jack (I assume) with the gargoyle on top of his head.

This is for sure the best court's design I've seen in the last couple of years. Can't wait to see back and aces!

Keep us updated please.

Been awhile... busy with working on 12 different cards at the same time I’m designing the tuck case AND having to still do my day job, whew.

Anyways, an update with a few of the pieces, hope you like. Situating myself to be able to ramp up on the card art side of things during and after the holidays, fingers crossed.

Thank you everyone for the continued support! Sorry it’s been hard to respond to everyone quickly, with house issues, collapsed garage drywall ceiling and all I’ve been dealing with to get it back to normal and the holidays to get ready for, ive been a bit distracted from working more on the card art.

My plans after Christmas, if everything goes as I hope it will, will be plowing forward full steam on finishing the first round of art by March.

For everyone reading this, and those who may not, I want to wish you all a very Christmas, happy holidays, a shining new year, and if you don’t celebrate the holidays, I wish you nothing but joy and happiness for you and yours.

More updates coming soon

Well, long time, no see everyone. Sorry I haven't been updating too much, crazy things going on at my daytime job.

Bad news, like so many others, just was furlonged for 60 days from work this last Friday...

Good news is I've been furlonged for 60 days from work this last Friday, so now I will be spending a TON of time to try to get the card decks done!

Scanned the pieces I have been working on as of late, not everything here that I have done, but wanted to show that I've still been hard at work on the artwork. You should be seeing quite a bit more update posting these next couple of months.

Everyone, stay safe and stay healthy! Things will get better my friends! :)
