It's so funny having produced playing cards to hear the community say things like "ugh, I love the back design but the courts are standard" or "custom courts BUT the courts are repetitive" and now on this deck with completely customs courts BUT "I wish all the courts had the same illustration style of the Kings".
I've said it before, but the truth is,
nobody will design the deck YOU want unless YOU design it yourself....and again, I encourage you to do so!!!
Only chiming in because actually do think this deck is incredible and the box set is hand made in the US and not outsourced. As a collector of playing cards for over 15 years, I purchased the box set and it will be going into my collection.
If we’re talking in general about a collector’s deck, rather than one mostly meant to be used for magic or card games, then saying that it has standard or repetitive courts or inconsistent style all seem like valid critiques to me. There are plenty of decks released on Kickstarter each month that don’t suffer from these or any other obvious major issues, and usually at least one which is fairly strong in every category. One doesn’t need to design a deck in order to get quality cards in their collection, and neither does one need to be a designer in order to comment on the perceived shortcomings of decks designed by others.
Regarding this particular box set, if the cardboard box itself is worth 150% the cost of the actual decks to you because its made in the US rather than elsewhere in the world, that’s a valid personal choice, but as others have implied, it seems more like a brazen cash grab to me, designed to make completionists feel like they’re missing something if they only purchase the decks and charging them through the nose to alleviate that feeling.
Ok

Some things that make me chuckle:
• People speaking of
the community as if it is some sort of uniform mass, that agrees on anything. People like different things and they'll critique accordingly to their taste.
• People calling modified standard courts "completely custom". It's like me changing the side mirrors of my 911 and claim to have done a complete custom job at my car.

I do like the handcrafted cardboard box though and kinda encourage the asking price - I like "locally" produced stuff and for me it is kinda obvious that the industrial product (decks) is way cheaper to produce than handcrafted stuff, it's just not a price I would pay here, because neither Beatles nor these decks in general interest me.

I'm guessing the reason for the cost increases on the box set has more to do with licensing fees than greed since it has that photo on the inside

While I don't care for the Yellow Submarine aesthetic, I do appreciate how T11 makes tie-in decks that both totally nail the IP while also being true to real playing card design. I'm glad for their success if they keep partnering with properties like these to make real decks and not just cheap souvenir decks that slap photos on bad designs.

This tuck/deck I'm really looking forward to. Sadly I don't know any of their songs but I know their names.

Huh.
My initial reaction: Not loving the backs, even though they do genuinely match (exactly) the tone and feel of the faces and of the subject matter. I find, in general, that the backs tend to work better when they are of a synergistic relationship with the faces rather than the exact same feel, but there are certainly some exceptions. In this case... maybe the backs will grow on me, I'm not sure.
But, the faces, in general, are pretty darn good. I do think they'd be a little better if they included just a wee dab of flesh color for the faces and hands to match the original artwork from Yellow Submarine (which, if you look closely, the faces are not purely white, but just the most faded shade of peach), but even so... I like 'em.
I'll be picking up a deck or two for the collection. But, yeah... the backs, at first glance, aren't quiiite what I'd prefer.

Surprising! I love the backs and think these are much much better than the first decks from last year

Agree on the backs, a bit busy for my taste, would rather they just focussed on the submarine. Likely an aftermarket buy for me since Theory 11 can't figure out how to ship to me.

Their website shows an obscured piece of the Queen of Hearts:

Been forever since I'd seen the movie, so I don't recall if that's a character who appears in the movie, but it doesn't resemble Pattie, Linda, Yoko, or Maureen as best I can tell.

Yellow Submarine Playing Cards, $12.95 (3 for $36.91, 6 for $69.93)
Special edition playing cards inspired by the 1968 animated film.
Join Paul, John, George, and Ringo as they take a journey on a yellow submarine to Pepperland to save the music-loving inhabitants from the Blue Meanies! They stand no chance against the Fab Four’s groovy tunes.
Premium playing cards featuring fan-favorite characters and artwork from the iconic animated musical adventure. The decks are illustrated with remarkable details and colorful, vibrant imagery. “It’s all in the mind y’know!”
Dressed in the iconic style of Yellow Submarine, the boxes perfectly represent the character and life of both the film and album featuring the members of the band: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Featuring tactile embossing and deep black foil accents, these are some of the most vibrant, playful designs we’ve ever produced.
The box, the back design, and all card faces have been meticulously crafted to pay tribute to Yellow Submarine. Take a ride to Pepperland each time the cards are held in your hand and brought out for play; you’ll feel like you’ve become a part of the film!
Take a dive into the wonderful, whimsical world of Yellow Submarine and become a part of the experience that revolutionized the art of animation. The people of Pepperland will be glad you paid a visit - Chief Blue Meanie must be stopped!

Yah, no. Not for me overall. Good thing about TXI, if I change me mind later I'll be able to pick these up at any point in time.

Bright colors are what makes the "Sgt. Pepper" deck series so great. But I'm sure completists will grab every one of these variants.
