Oh yeah, I forgot about them. I guess it was a Cartamundi thing - not giving a smurf. They have to be one of the worst and most unnecessary collaborations ever.

Yes 10yrs ago Magicdream were allowed to do one last run of their Rider back Ultimate Marked Deck
That is a long time ago and yet I just purchased another this year so it makes you wonder how much demand there is for marked Rider backs
No doubt Butterfly's will be way more concealed
Chris Ramsay was allowed to do the 1st Rider Backs last year.
Chris's first Rider Backs actually brought Ondrej the idea of producing the Marked Bicycle Rider Backs. It was the first time USPC allowed a customized version of Bicycle Rider Backs. We went the same route as Chris. We didn't change anything in the trademarked back design. We added to it.

Yeah, you're right that designwise, it really wasn't great. However CR mentioned it was meant as a proof of concept deck that a collab with bicycle decks can be done. The USPCC head liked it and gave it a green light. So that was the biggest contribution CR did with his 1st Bicycle deck collab.
Pavel said as much that it inspired designers that such collabs can be done and USPCC would support it if it met all the criteria.
Based on my poor recollection, I believe this is the 2nd bicycle back deck after 1st ?
Tally-ho has 2: Orbit and KWP, while Bee has 1 with Cherry.

Did you know that it took a really long time for CR to actually make his 1ST Bicycle Deck? It was denied a lot of times, and not until a smooth talk in CardCon and USPCC goes: “Okay, let’s do it!”
Other USPCC decks like Tallys and Bees are easy: the design can be compromised and such. Not to Rider Back, which is now have a legion of lawyers on the front gate

Actually, USPCC did lockdown on Tallys as well. JR mentioned it
here in 2019.
Not sure if the Bee's were clamped as well. Can anyone confirm that?
But as you said, due to CR's persistence, USPCC finally agreed to open back up their IP to collabs. Let's see what other decks come out of this. Ondrej has thrown the gauntlet by putting marked Riders back in the game, instead of just designer's logos. (JR's tallys was an ongoing series so nothing really new there)

As far as I know, only Maiden Backs (and maybe Mandolin Backs) can be changed. Other designs, including Tally-Hos and Bees, are protected by the same policy as Rider Backs.

And I though Rider Back is the most strict one.. because, after the announcement that it is going to be heavily protected by IP, all those custom Rider Back decks (those decks that were THE Custom decks a decade ago) are extinguished.

I think that's a good thing. I don't mind if Bicycle uses their own rider-back design. But those lazy variants from BOCOPO & Collectibles are too much, just change a background or pick another color. Big no for me
But this ?? hell yeah, BACKED

Our Marked Bicycle Rider Backs will be traditionally cut, making them perfect for smooth faro shuffles from the faces to the backs. This is especially useful for table work.

Also! There is just a little over 24 hours of the campaign.

Well it turns out shipping is 21 EUR for my 10 EUR deck.... I may have to (try to?) cancel

I believe that there is the shipping cost chart on the main page of the project and it was there from the beginning, so everyone could check shipping rates before the pledge. Unfortunately (at least to some countries) shipping one deck costs the same as shipping 12 decks...

Hello!
We understand the concerns. Ondrej addresses the shipping in great detail in the latest update.
To quickly summarize, today, the biggest portion of shipping fees is the shipping action itself. Weight has become a secondary factor (and sometimes even less). That's why the shipping fees for small and big orders are very close.
To provide fast and reliable shipping, we are using courier services (DPD, FedEx, and Packeta) with online tracking and delivery times between 7 and 14 days.

If they interest me and get made then I may purchase them in an aftermarket that offers free shipping. Chances are the cards have either already been made or will be made regardless of funding so KS sales don't have me holding my breath.

Unfortunately a lot of decks are not available with free shipping in the the aftermarket. Of course there isn't really any such thing as Free shipping, we are really talking about 'shipping included' prices (which are often as good as others pre-shipping prices) for I don't know any supplier that gets their goods shipped for nothing!

Penguin and Vanishing eat the shipping costs and keep the deck prices at normal retail.

That's what I've learned in the pretty short-lived card collecting phase. You'll either get burned by international shipping fees, and see the cards on Vanishing/Penguin or your local country retailer. Or you'll either get burned by after market retail costs (the case with Ark).
I paid $27 shipping for The Goldsmith and $29 (1 deck and 3-coin set post-campaign surprise too) for Groundskeeper. My only hope is that they both ship premium and not that cheap postal mail that charge extra fees upon arrival (what Vanishing uses, but understandable). I'll let them know my disappointment otherwise.

Are you saying that Vanishing do not have Free Shipping?
I have only ever had one order with Vanishing back in Jan 2018 which incurred no shipping charge (it was a large one so it may have been exempt with them/anyone)

He means that someone has to pay the shipper. In their case it's Vanishing, they just eat the cost.

Confused: How would he know that someone has to pay the shipper on arrival if it was not him/the recipient

Postal services don't work for free. Vanishing pays them, they just don't pass that on to the customers and take it out of their profits.

Vanishing ships for free.
This might be a local thing to my country, but whenever an item is shipped as a letter or something through the postal services (e.g. USPS, Royal Standard Mail), our local postal service charges some fee upon delivery. I never know what it's for, I don't bother to ask as I rarely receive them myself.

While items shipped through commercial shippers (e.g. DHL, UPS, NinjaVan) don't charge anything so I know when my item is shipped premium.

In this case, it is much easier because the creator confirmed that this deck will only be available through their own retail channels.
But overal, ChatGPT has the answer:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <ctime>
// Function to simulate the creator's response with some uncertainty
std::string askCreator() {
srand(time(0));
int random_response = rand() % 3; // Random number between 0 and 2
if (random_response == 0) {
return "yes";
} else if (random_response == 1) {
return "no";
} else {
return "uncertain";
}
}
int main() {
std::string response;
bool decided = false;
std::cout << "Asking the creator if the decks will be available on Murphy's Magic..." << std::endl;
while (!decided) {
response = askCreator();
// Decision making based on the response
if (response == "yes") {
std::cout << "Creator says: Yes" << std::endl;
std::cout << "Decision: Wait and buy from a Murphy's Magic retailer with free shipping." << std::endl;
decided = true;
} else if (response == "no") {
std::cout << "Creator says: No" << std::endl;
std::cout << "Decision: Buy on Kickstarter." << std::endl;
decided = true;
} else {
std::cout << "Creator says: Uncertain" << std::endl;
std::cout << "The response is uncertain, asking the creator again..." << std::endl;
}
}
return 0;
}
FOMO version:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <ctime>
// Function to simulate the creator's response with some uncertainty
std::string askCreator() {
srand(time(0));
int random_response = rand() % 3; // Random number between 0 and 2
if (random_response == 0) {
return "yes";
} else if (random_response == 1) {
return "no";
} else {
return "uncertain";
}
}
int main() {
std::string response;
bool decided = false;
int attempts = 0;
const int max_attempts = 3;
std::cout << "Asking the creator if the decks will be available on Murphy's Magic..." << std::endl;
while (!decided) {
response = askCreator();
attempts++;
// Decision making based on the response
if (response == "yes") {
std::cout << "Creator says: Yes" << std::endl;
std::cout << "Decision: Wait and buy from a Murphy's Magic retailer with free shipping." << std::endl;
decided = true;
} else if (response == "no") {
std::cout << "Creator says: No" << std::endl;
std::cout << "Decision: Buy on Kickstarter." << std::endl;
decided = true;
} else {
std::cout << "Creator says: Uncertain" << std::endl;
if (attempts >= max_attempts) {
std::cout << "Attempts exceeded limit. Decision: Buy on Kickstarter to avoid missing out." << std::endl;
decided = true;
} else {
std::cout << "The response is uncertain, asking the creator again..." << std::endl;
}
}
}

}
