Omg this acebear02 is a fool! I’ve been back and forth with this guy for nearly 2 years! I’ve got several emails where we go at it over deck identifications, pricing, etc. I’m still trying to figure out how he copyrighted a civil war era Dougherty deck. I told him it was misidentified and he said if I could prove him wrong he would change it. I gave him proof and he called me a liar. For the record “Mad Max Mike” is 81 years old.

The people who are buying these decks at these prices are not crazy or stupid. They are either lazy (not willing to research the market for what they are trying to buy) or else inexperienced (I have overpaid for a deck or two when I was just starting).

Hmm... the explanation you gave does exactly sound like stupid behaviour to me. Stupid is a bit too negative connotated for most imo. We all do stupid stuff, once in a while, I bet every collector did overpay in his early days. Making a stupid decision doesn't make one a stupid person. If one keeps doing stupid things, then I would advise to worry, analyze and adjust.

I didn't.

Most collectors don't do their research before diving in, though. Comic spec drek buyers are the most guilty of this.

Well, I would argue that lack of experience should not be equated with stupidity. When one is starting at a particular activity (be it a new job or hobby or something else), that someone is by definition less versed in the relevant matters but I would not think of calling them stupid. Unaware, overeager - perhaps but not the s word.

I'm guessing that people on Ebay usually expect that they're getting a deal and forget to do research or look for other listings. Basically they get tunnel vision.

well, if I was someone like acebear02 who has lost his marbles in evaluating value of decks by putting out, time and time again, such ridiculous ebay listings, I too would sell the last one I have left for a small fortune... :ugthink:

seriously, this dude is a joke and it never ceases to amaze me how often he comes up in this thread... at this point, I almost always expect new posts to be of his listings... :? :ugthink:

Insanity. A gold on gold Oath Standard Collectors for 455USD. The worst part? It's already changed to sold, did somebody actually pay that? It has to be some kind of a mistake. I don't care how deep one's pockets are, it's not okay to set those kinds of precedents or encourage that sort of predatory behaviour.
