I, likewise, will not complain about $10 per deck for a decent rendition of the Tally's.

I will note that in the past, there was no additional separate shipping fee; the players addition was $7 or so bucks each straight up, including shipping. I'm okay with the $8 price tag. And, to the extent that the price tag is actually now $10, it's not so high as to make me lower the number of decks I'm opting for. But, as with the line crossed through the $12, which I don't recall him doing before (maybe he did and I failed to notice), the $8 + $2 feels manipulative, whereas just calling it $10 total per deck would not feel manipulative -- even though that's ultimately the same price.

...and even though we're paying for shipping, regardless of where you sneak it in or how you label it.

I posted a comment on the project page asking if the $2 per deck shipping charge was an intentional thing; these kinds of mistakes have been made before. And, if it's not a mistake, no big deal. It's fine.

It's just the tiniest bit... you know what? I'm becoming a grumpy old man on the porch, griping at the passers by that they should stop playing their music so loud on their boom boxes. And, while we're at it, stay off my lawn!

UPDATE!

Sorry for the double post, but this deserves and update, not just an edit:

Jackson responded to my comment on the project page and said that, indeed, the $2 per deck shipping charge was simply a mistake and that he corrected it in Backerkit and he asked me to check. Sure enough, the extra shipping charges were zeroed out, so the total that will be charged to my card was lowered by $2 a deck.

Thus, the Players Edition really is $8 per deck.

And so, this grumpy old man is sitting back down on his comfy rocking chair on the front porch, smiling and feeling okay with the world. I might even wave as the neighbors walk by. (As long as they stay off my lawn.)

badpete,

I don't think anyone's been charged for that particular shipping charge, yet, since the backerkit hasn't been closed.

I checked my order and the price was fixed. Your card won’t be charged for a few days, so I assume it was a global correction. Just to make sure, find your email confirmation and click on the link to verify your order.

All of my decks are Player's decks. ;)

He probably shouldn't put up the crossed out $12, it gives people another reason to complain about something which has already happened. Maybe after Backerkit, that will be the retail value. I bought one but I'll end up keeping the gilded version and do away with the premium one.

When I don't like something, I pass. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist."

So, in the original campaign under the Player's Edition Heading it states: The Player's Edition will only be available to backers of the Premium edition for $8 per deck.. I never pledged for the Premium edition (or anything else in the original campaign). However, I was able use the pre-order button to order 2 Players edition for $8 each. If I was an original backer and had been forced to pledge for the Premium in order to get a Players, I'd be pissed. Of course, my order could end up being cancelled. Otherwise...

At first I was worried about the printer and then realized since it was Tally-Ho branded, it had to be USPCC. For this type of standard recolored deck, $8 seems like the right price, We'll see how this plays out. With JR it seems there's always some twist down the line.

I'm not one that cares too much about the availability of the Player's Edition, probably because I also don't care too much about the Premium Edition. I'm all for the non-gilded versions being available to a lot of people. JR's Tally-Hos are very nice, and the more people that have the opportunity to own and play with them, the better.

Neither am I but I think the point is that nothing with JR can ever seem to be 100% straight forward and honest. Whoever coined the phrase "the devil's in the details" was surly following JR around. He's been on my ever populating BUYER BEWARE list for some years now. I'm not saying you can't trust him but I am saying... well, simply buyer beware.

I suspect that this is as much accidental as the additional shipping costs were. Has anyone reached out to him about this?

You're not wrong in the fact that JR has been very non-detail-oriented in the last year or two.

Were the Maduros supposed to be next month?

I'm excited that these are coming in early. Hopefully we'll see something similar happen with Tigers.

P.S. anyone that was in on Maduros, maybe bought multiples, I'll lighten my wallet to lighten your load.

For those who didn't back it, the Backerkit surveys just went out yesterday for JR's Tigers, so things seem to be humming right along as far as I can tell.

I posted this update on the Kickstarter page. It is intended for those that have a Gilded Olive Tally Ho in their pledge. I'll Copy and past below.

Copied From KS Update

Hello everyone. I just wanted to give you a quick update to keep you up to date with some new developments.

I received the Gilded Olive Tally Ho Decks today and they look amazing. The rose copper gilding looks awesome.
OTH1.jpg
The Bad news about the current situation is that I only received 2 out of the 3 boxes that were shipped to me. I am still missing an entire gross of the Gilded Decks. What you see below is the very sad and lonely 56 Sealed, Numbered, and Gilded Decks I received today from the United States Playing Card Company. You can also catch a glimpse at the beautiful Black Walnut Olive Legacy cases stacked in the background.
oth2.jpg
oth2.jpg (124.96 KiB) Viewed 2217 times
What to expect if you had a pledge that included a gilded deck or a Legacy Deck.
  • I HAVE the correct gilded decks to send out the Legacy Decks.
  • I HAVE the correct premium decks to send out your included premium decks
  • I HAVE the correct display decks to send out your included display decks
  • I DO NOT have the correct number of Gilded Decks AT THE MOMENT to send out the Gilded decks.
I don't really feel like making you guys wait any longer for your rewards that are NOT the Gilded decks so by Saturday I hope, all remaining rewards will be sent out INCLUDING the Legacy decks. The only thing that will come at a later date (as soon as the rogue package arrives or I work out another solution with USPCC) will be the 200 Gilded Decks. I'm hoping that all the worry is for nothing and that my UPS guy Robert brings the package that got lost in his truck tomorrow, and I just ship everything out and be finished. Either way, I will keep you posted and "in the know" of what's going on. We are still a few months ahead of the original December delivery date.

I guess I am very behind in the Tally Ho game... And I apologize if this is the wrong post to be making this comment.. So far the only Tally Ho that I have is the spectrum one.. (You'll have to cut me some slack since I did only start collecting cards in July 2018)..

With that said.. what would be some of the more affordable Tally Ho decks to start off for a collection? A lot of these decks are nearing the $20+ range based on what I've seen and I'm afraid these decks may be very costly to pursue.. And if this is going to be the case, I'm not sure if I want to embark on this journey..

Can I get some suggestions on the 'best' way to start this collection in an affordable manner?

Thank you!

I think a great piece of advice to new collectors that are trying to keep some reasonable boundaries is pick something specific and collect that for a while and see how it goes. It also will make it more interesting because it becomes a game in a way of finding that "thing".

Examples:
Only Collect Tally Ho decks
Only Collect decks with Bald Eagles
Only Collect Kings Wild Decks ;)
Only Collect Train Decks
Ask CBJ about only collecting Bike decks

I know a very kind gentleman, that if you go to 52 Plus Joker convention, that collects everything that has a camel on it. Don't ask me why, but I think its awesome.

Then on top of that if something comes along that you just really love get it as well.
