Which 'best' designers are you refering to that use free clipart? Let's be specific in our claims by actually backing them up with facts ;)

Speak for yourself. I personally loved Gio and Jackson's "ode to Clip art" decks.

There's a design purpose for that Deryn. It's a tiger seal on a bicycle deck so he used it for his Tigers deck.

You just used a clip art chicken because you aren't an artist and you're lazy.

Do you understand the difference?

No one's saying it's illegal. Just that is really low effort and highly embarrassing.

The name isn't original - knock off on OPC

Tuck had to be redesigned due to copyright concerns - as unoriginal as it gets

Art is clipart -bottom of the unoriginal barrel.

Is anything original about the deck?

oh com'on guys! Deryn worked really hard on this deck - let's give him a break!

I'm sure if we all try *reeeallly* really hard, we can maybe find *SOMETHING* original about this deck...

*google search "Asian Pattern"...*

okay, maybe not on the tuck... :ugthink:

Image

*google search "ramen noodles clipart"...*

oops! perhaps not here on the backs either... :ugthink:

I mean... surely there's gotta be *SOMETHING* - hey, maybe the creator can enlighten us! Deryn...

Wow the entire deck is clipart. I wonder if his backers know? Maybe someone should ask a question on the Kickstarter that Deryn can remove or not answer.

but for *only* $17-19usd, yOu ToO cAn HaVe ThIs DeCk! :ugthink:

btw, in case anyone wanted to specifically shop around for non-clipart'd pasta-related decks, this is just a reminder that there's still time to back the La Pasta Decks currently running on KS that actually do feature fully custom and original art for roughly the same price...

oh but don't worry! I'm sure we'll get a super rad IG story shoutout featured to go out to all 1900+ of his most loyal fans and followers (of which, less than 0.05% have turned up in support of his project... hmmm... really makes ya think, don'it... :ugthink: )

Not taking sides here but I guess everyone with healthy eyes and an IQ above 85.6 sees at first glance that this deck is clipart. No need to do searches  .
I can't believe someone really paid to legally use clipart... clown world.

I don't know what happened and I can't say I really care. I find it sad to witness such animosity from both sides in such a small world.

I like OPC decks, they're usable, affordable when getting them at launch. They're modified standards, which suits my personal tastes and uses. Knowing this is a parody, why not?

I like the backs and the colour scheme of this deck. The name is fun. The jokers aren't my favorite but at least there's a reveal on them so they're usable I guess. I would have prefered something a bit more "pretty" than a bag of scented powder and for card games or magic I tend to favor mostly identical looking jokers and keep the reveals to additional cards or gaffs but that's my personal view and isn't a no go depending on the rest.

I wish I could see more of the court cards. The two that are shown on the project page are cute but are they repeating mostly except for facial details? I can't tell. What are the jacks like? I can't tell either. Sorry if the creator showed this info on IG or elsewhere but I'm an hermit, I don't have any presence on these social networks and do not intend to do so. Even moreso now that I see the effects they seem to have on the global animosity. I'm not digging the tuckcase either, it's better now than what it was but not enough for my tastes. I don't like that this is shown as the first of a series. It's a parody deck, short jokes are the best ones, I won't ever a gazillion number of parody decks, I don't have the space nor the finances for that.

I'll wait for more info or for reviews and will maybe get it in the aftermarket should it be funded depending on the mood of the moment because that's the main determining factor for me at the moment. Anyway, I'm broke due to medical expanses so I'll have to pass on the KS for sure.

And again, no one is showing his / her best side here. I'll keep my eyes closed and return to my cave.

Thanks for the pictures!

Very close to repeating courts, there's only tiny facial features that change from card to card, as announced on the project page and as I feared. I wish they were not all holding the same bowl of noodles, I wish they were more distinctive. I wish they kept the basics, like the suicide king etc...

I get that as a parody deck, it doesn't have to be the most beautiful thing out here, it's the idea that matters mostly. I get that the creator uses cliparts as it's not his fundamental job to design things. But as a parody it is not done well enough to my tastes and will definitely be a pass now. I won't be getting a deck because the name is somewhat funny regarding to another series of decks, there are lots of improvement to be made to make me consider getting these, as discussed above.

Je vous en pris :) .

Kinda my thoughts as well. I think the risk of kickstarter is that a lot of decks get rushed and are put out there with a "I just give it a shot. We'll see. If it funds, fine - If not, so be it!"-mentality instead of trying to achieve the best possible deck.

I love that e.g. Wylie Beckert just put an update out there on Patreon where she excussed herself for taking so long, but finally came to peace with her project taking as much time as it needs and only releasing it if she is 100% satisfied with the result. I wish more creators, would have that mindset. To be fair, I do understand that sometimes external circumstances are interfering with that and of course not everybody has the same demands, which is totally fine.

Well thanks for that insightful opinion. Lol. This is exactly my point. This is to be a deck review. And people take personal shots. I get that it's not the best deck. But "you suck" has nothing to do with the topic. I try my best to defend myself ALONE while everyone gangs up on me. That is the least of my concerns. It's the lack of support and guidance. Dont like the deck? Fine. But since it's a deck announcement, what needs to be changed? What would you rather have seen? Pretty sure someone out there will say "a new creator." This is what I'm talking about. And the name calling? Sticks and stones dude lol.

Aw, you're such a helpless victim.

What needs to be changed? Everything.

What would I have rather seen? Anything other than a 0% effort clip art deck (again).

A lot of hypocrisy goes a little way, dude. It's 2020. Time to take a look back at yourself. Stop crying wolf.

Hmm... it depends on what do you want to achieve.

Option A) - the what I would do option - Getting in touch with a skilled designer/illustrator and go for better art:
As written before, I totally get, and respect, it if you wanna create your very own deck. But I for example can't draw/paint and don't have great photoshop skills so I would definetly team up with someone to create my vision.

Option B) Doubling down on the OPC parody:
Standard USPC courts with Noodlers details (and maybe Chicken flavor scent!? :ugthink: - I personally hate scented cards and therefore don't own any OPC deck besides a Snackers deck that was gifted to me). Stripping the card back and only having the noodle bowls. So Hanson Chien level of rip-off :D . I would like that idea but would certainly never pull the trigger if they cost more than $4-5 since I'm too picky nowadays and save my funds for Lotrèk or S17 and therealike.

Option C) Keep your design but make tweeks:
The too similar courts are the biggest issue imo. I didn't even realize when I first saw them, that they have differences. I thought the were 100% repeating courts. STL and Azazaaz mentioned, they like the overall whimsical vibe and the colours so you have something there. The asian fish scale pattern that you used on the tuck is a good pattern, maybe put it on the back of the cards as an overall back ground as well. Try to give it more depth though either with some more contrast or shading.

I can understand the parody aspect, but the fact remains there is no effort on this one (as with many cardistry decks, these days). Campaigns like this one are disheartening because I can see this is already nearing $4,000...for a clipart deck. An admitted clipart deck. I get it - it's what sells. However, then you look at Emmanuel with his Luchadores campaign. A fully-custom, fantastic experience that needed an entire month just to cross the $5,000 goal. Or Basil's Magnum Force, which raised $7,700 - a deck that is up for nomination in this year's DOTYs, no less.

What started as a joke should have remained as a joke, in my opinion. If this was a parody, it lost its way because it has become part of the bland, lifeless (and ever-expanding) part of the playing card world that doesn't really do much for the community, in my opinion. Keep in mind, I am not the target demo for these Snackers-style cards or hype brands, so what does it matter, anyway? You were encouraged by your followers to make this, so you have support, even if not for the right reasons.

I might add that I like to see creators and designers interact on this forum, looking for feedback, and providing insight into design choices. In the future, if you are interested in feedback, try posting the project in its draft stage on the custom deck drafting board so we can sink our teeth in. As you can already see from previous responses, a lot of folks on here are more inclined to support originality and effort, so if you are releasing any future decks, be prepared for some brutal honesty. We aren't shy here.
