Congrats Stacey on creating such an awesome deck, and running such an awesome project.

Hello, I hope you are all well. I could use some advice from the UC community. I received my tuck samples from Legends today for the Sardines Playing Card project and I am over the moon with them. I originally planned to create this deck using a shimmering pearlescent stock but Legends have kindly sent me a gloss version of the deck (both are embossed) and it has thrown a spanner in the works. I have added a video above which shows both finishes in many different lighting options. Hopefully, you can let me know which you prefer. I think I am leaning towards gloss just purely because it looks like the embossed metal tin with its glossy reflective surface but it is a tough call as both look good. Please watch the video before commenting as it does give a clear view of both options.

I love how luxurious the pearlescent stock looks but I have to agree that the glossy serves the project a bit better. It does make it seem more like an embossed tin and the colors really pop. Glossy gets my vote. These look fantastic

I'm in agreement here to both points. Love the pearlescent tuck and would happily buy an uncut tuck of those, but glossy seems more fitting for this deck and its theme.

Echoing what was said above. Pearlescent is nice but for the tin optic glossy is more fitting.

I generally agree with what everyone else has said. Though the pearlescent stock does give it kind of a weathered look, like it's an old tin you found in a basement, which I kinda like.

unfortunately for me, i am in the minority here and will likely lose out. i would definitely prefer to get what i pledged for as pearlescent was listed in the campaign. i think it would be kind of a dick move to change to a cheaper stock after we have already paid for what the campaign lists. $14 for the pearl stock was a value, $14 for plain glossy stock is not. take away the embossing and it is a $10 deck. with embossing probably $12 deck. talk about color pop and tin can look all you like but the glossy stock is cheaper and saves money.
i am all for ''democracy'' and voting but the stock choices should have been tested and selected before the campaign, shouldnt be a vote after we have paid for a more premium stock. if this were an upgrade i would be more understanding but going glossy after paying for pearl is a downgrade.

Disclaimer: I'm not a backer, and so I do not have a dog in this fight.
I'm with Blues. To me, not only is the stock cheaper, it LOOKS cheaper. I don't see the resemblance to a tin of sardines with the gloss version. I also agree that it kinda sucks to downgrade materials after payment. I empathize with the argument that one might make about choosing that which best displays the art (subjective anyway), but to me, it's a principle sort of thing. Again, NOT A BACKER, don't listen to me.

One of the solutions - produce both versions as embossing is the same.
1. Move the survey out of Kickstarter to something like pledgebox.com (free to use, 3% up-sale)
2. Offer both versions there.
3. Make the original box Kickstarter exclusive.
4. Some backers may upgrade or order both boxes.
IMHO

Even if you're in the minority, this is an incredibly valid point. I hadn't thought about this and await what SJK decides to do knowing this is the case.

A good possible solution. Just a simple color swap on the tuck from red to green or teal could further entice new purchases.

Hello all,
Yes I agree all valid points. I'm in talks with Legends about offering both versions. I did not declare this an actual vote, I'm purely getting feedback regarding the finishes. Enough people like the gloss finish for me to consider creating both and it's no skin off my nose to organise getting the preferred choice to each backer should Legends allow me to create both finishes. There really is not much price difference in tuck stock so there's no large difference in profit. I shared this video because Legends sent me the extra sample and to my surprise it looked good, I thought my backers should see it. Now I have enough feedback I will wait for the response from Legends and let you all know ASAP. The pearlescent looks excellent too and the final product will be more saturated then the sample which is great news.

Thank you for being so transparent in the design process! Always refreshing when creators interact with backers during issues like these.
I'm sure I'm in a minority but I'd like to exercise my American right not to vote lol. I think both versions look fine and I'd be happy with either one of them. So if it comes down to a selection, just surprise me. I have faith the correct version will end up in my hands.

Hello all,
quick reminder for anyone who has backed this deck to vote for their preferred finish by the end of today. We will likely print a run of both finishes so backers will have the choice between gloss and pearl. Here is a link to a video demonstrating both options...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1hZrFefOq4&t=3s
Last week I sent direct messages to all backers asking which finish they would like. Please ensure you respond via Kickstarter by the end of today if you would like to have the choice. Thanks in advance.

Hi Stacey,
I never received a response but I was asking if it's possible to buy another deck so we could have one of each finish. I had originally pledged for one. Thank you.

Hello,
I will let you know once I have completed the workings from everyone's votes at the end of the day. I have made a note of those who would like to order extras and I will let you know as soon as I have the info. Math is happening as we speak

A lot of backers will buy both editions! All you need is to move the survey to 3rd party with upsale options. You will instantly get 5-10% on top of your Kickstarter funds. You will also save your time!
p.s. you asked backers via private messages, but how to use this information as their final response?

Hello,
I hope you are well. Quick update regarding the Gloss & Pearl situation. Good News! Production had begun on both finishes so those who requested gloss can have gloss. I have updated the orders to reflect the requests. Thank you to everyone for being so responsive it was great to hear all your feedback. Anyone who didn't vote will get a pearlescent deck as per their original campaign pledge. Both finishes are looking great.
There is also a limited number of additional GLOSS Sardines Decks available for backers who would like to purchase one. The gloss decks will also have silver hot foil on the card backs, embossed detail on the tuck and a custom seal and will be created using the Viper finish, only the tuck finish will vary. I have asked backers to message me if they are interested, this is for a limited time only as I will be sending the final shipping info early next week.
I have posted an update on KS regarding the details...
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sq ... ts/3763471
The first bundle of custom T-shirts arrived and a demo video can be seen on the KS update page ^

@Squiddle_Ink, for folks that missed the KS campaign... will there be extra decks / ways to purchase leftover decks after the decks are delivered to the backers?

Hello all,
Good News for any customers who missed the original campaign. You can now pre-order these cards and the campaign merch such as T-shirts, pins and art prints from the following web store. The cards are almost ready with about 2 weeks left on production so we are getting close and the remaining batch should be arriving around early May. If you have any questions feel free to contact me directly through the site.

For anyone who purchased a Fishing For Compliments deck during the Sardines KS project - great news - your packages are on their way.
Fishing For Compliments is now available to purchase on my web store...
https://squiddleinkshop.com/
I have a very limited supply of these decks and they are only available whilst stocks last. I have received many requests regarding this deck and where to purchase it.
The deck is available alongside the T-shirts, the Art prints, and the enamel pins. Orders over £60 receive free shipping.
I am currently fulfilling my merch for the Sardines projects so I thought this was a good time to post the FFC deck for anyone who missed the chance to grab one as an add-on.
