Mike i think what rousselle meant was that because the letters hold meaning in another language, a user of both language would find it distracting. Whist a user of only english would not.

A not so parallel parallel would be how some people tattoo Chinese characters on their arms to look cool but dont actually know what they mean, can turn out to be quite hilarious for people like me.

Well just for laughs.

What Volantangel said. *That's* what I meant. That's what your artistic license means to me: Chicken Noodle Soup.

You see "ДQIЩД" and choose to interpret that as "AQUILA," whereas, as someone who reads Russian fluently, I see, "DQISHCHD". Which is meaningless gibberish, and distracting. Seriously.

When I see Toys Я Us, I don't read it as "Toys Ya Us", because the English letters overwhelm the stylized R. But, when you throw a bunch of Russian letters at someone who reads Russian, with only one out-of-place letter (the Q in Aquila, which has the same effect as the Я in Toys Я Us), now I'm not in English reading mode, I'm in Russian reading mode. And it's distracting. That's all.

No slight or offense meant to the designers. But putting something in just because it looks cool without realizing that it may have meaning doesn't make it any less meaningful to the people who, well, know what it means. Know what I mean?

Viva la DQUISHCHD!

da, da, ja, ja = I got it, now. Makes sense, before I wasn't thinking about the stylized "A" looking like the Cyrillic 'D', but now it makes perfect sense. I still think it's pretty much the artist being an artist, but I'm not that good reading Russian, either. Dansk, hollandsk, svensk, norge, tysk - I get by. Even though my dad taught me a little Russian when I was very young, I never learned to read it. I can say "autovmobilia" (anglicized, of course) and know what I mean, but I certainly can't spell it with Cyrillic characters...

I have to say that I like this design. It reminds me a mix of other designs thought, but the final result is quite good for me.

Furthermore, I appreciate a lot the involvement of Kardify in the project in order to make this dream of a creator a reality. That's something really cool.

I have to wish them the best luck!

Hey gents,

I understand what rouselle mean here, as someone who reads Russian, you might read that as "DQISHCHD", but I can't read Russian and I clearly have stated the title was AQUILA, so I think people can read it as AQUILA.

It might be similar case with the IMPEЯIAL, as someone who read Russian, you might read that as "IMPEYAIAL", but Randy have clearly stated the title is IMPERIAL, so I think people can get it and read it as IMPERIAL.

I see another case with what volant said, I can't read Chinese and it's not clearly stated as "Chicken Noodle Soup", but if you can read Chinese, you might laugh when see someone have "Chicken Noodle Soup" tattoo. But as I said, since it's not clearly stated, you'll never know what it's mean, if you can't read Chinese.

It's just my opinion, and I really appreciate everyone's opinions. I like how the world is full with controversy :D

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

"When a thing ceases to be a subject of controversy, it ceases to be a subject of interest." - William Hazlitt

"Controversy is part of the nature of art and creativity." - Yoko Ono

Yep, won't be the first time nor the last that I make a mistake, I'm quite certain of that. I guess I speak danmark, but I know better. I wasn't really even thinking, just typing.

Ade - I have to agree that you're definitely onto something with your vision and artistry. If this is your first try at creating playing card decks you're gonna be famous!

I'll be perfectly honest and without having a single clue who did that at first I thought it was something Kenzii (Lee McKenzie) did - as in Empire, and before that when he worked for Ellusionist he did Artifice, Infinity, Arcane and others. I'm not saying you are being a copycat - far from it! I'm saying that it looks like the next generation of decks he just made six months ago that are already going for $50-$65 each - IF you can find them. In my mind that's a wonderful thing!! If you want to talk about mental imprints from looking at old world art, think about the Origin and Grail decks Rick Davidson just did. They harken back to the days of the mid-17th century but also inject modernization into the theme at the same time. Again, it's certainly not copying anything, it's meant as an extreme compliment. I wasn't the only person that saw the first look at Aquila deck tucks and thought it had to be what Lee had been so quiet about, but as it turns out Lee's in Lost Wages right now - and winning!
:ugdance:

Date fixed: it is THIS Wednesday at 7AM Central, 8AM Eastern

WTF Kickstarter do to their search engine!? I usually type in "playing cards" in the search and all of the projects would come up. Now since they're trying to be fancy with it, it doesn't show all of the projects just the (14) recent ones. When looking for a something, you have to actually type in the name of the deck.

I went for the Limited Collector's box which I thought was a very good price. I don't care about what # a collective set/deck is so I could change it to the normal standard two because I will open the decks and throw away the cello.
"When I like something, I buy. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist.

When I don't like something, I pass. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist."

Ya I noticed that last week Bikefanatic, not a big fan. Like you said, it was so much easier to type in "Playing Cards" and have the entire list at your disposal.

Thanks so much for your support ;)

The tribal, native american, asian, etc themes usually don't get me too excited. However, for the early bird price and some nice design I jumped in. The tuck/back won more over. If I'm honest though it has a lot to do with Legends being the printer. I'm curious to see what the hype is about as I don't have any from them yet.

At the bottom of the Ace of Spades, it says in Cyrillic, "Tnye Tchtn."

The more I look at these cards, the more I like the designs of the courts and the number cards, and the more the freakin' abuse of Cyrillic is driving me crazy. I swear, even though I could figure out that the first word in that pair was supposed to be "The", it took me *minutes* to figure out what they were going for with the second word, and English is my first language, not my second. Jeez. A "Ch" is not a "Y". There's no way to see a "Ch" as a "Y" if you already know that a "Ch" is a "Ch".

I'm pledging for a few because I like the aesthetics of the courts and the number cards so much. Like, really, a whole lot. But the Russian letters to try to spell English words just gets dumber and dumberer.

-------

Norbie: you raise a point that has occurred to me, as well, but if Ivan backs it, that carries quite a bit of weight. Ivan is rock solid. And, for that matter, I think Mike R is also part of the "crew," and I doubt he'd lend his valuable repuation to a fly-by-night prospect. Seeing the kind of endorsement Mike and Ivan are giving this project, I'm thinking this project is a good bet.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Tony Ingrassia ("Sparkz") is behind door #3 here. I am certain that this project is 100% legit. The Cyrillic says "The Myth"...

Never for a moment worried about this deck, has been class from the start. Hopefully we've gotten better at sniffing out the Founders of the KS world.
