I really enjoy seeing your posts and pics from your collection; and including some of the modern decks - especially those based on art and style of older deck designs would be really interesting juxtaposed to the actual particular vintage/antique deck or an example of the decks they are inspired by (if you have them of course - although, from the vastness of your collection, I wouldn't doubt that you do ;)

Either way, I love your posts and always keep posting, because ultimately, it's such a privilege to get a glimpse at your collection :D Thanks for sharing!

Hello Amy.
Thank you for looking in on my thread, i am glad you like the cards...Although you do flatter me too much.

I`m afraid i only have a few decks that , i think you might find interesting, if i`m reading you write. The first decks that spring to mind are the three decks designed by Ian Cumpstey
His first "The Inglewood Hunting Deck" is clearly inspired by but not copied from the Ambras Hunting Deck, i`ve shown a picture of both decks together, However i have posted the Ambras cards in the Germany section of the worldwide time machine.
100_8795.JPG
Ians other two decks are similar to this, inspired by but not copied. Viceroys are inspired by the Mamluk Cards from egypt and the Pike & Clover deck is inspired by the Tarot de Marseilles cards.

Origins by Rick Davidson is perhaps the only other one i could think of, What a modern day double headed version of the largely forgotten Rouen pattern would look like...i would like to see Rick continue and introduce other "forgotten" patterns into the origins series.
Johann Bussemacher`s Das Kolner Kartenspiel (3258).jpg
I`m not sure this counts but In 1591 Johann Bussemacher published a pack of cards which was inspired by The circular cards of Master PW from c.1500. As you can see Most of the illustrations from the Bussemacher pack are directly copied from the PW pack, however some are not especially the courts which are different.
100_8809.JPG
i have scanned the round PW pack for the worldwide and you can see it in the German section, i will scan the Bussemacher deck and post that some time in the near future.
I hope this was the kind of thing you were after.

Here`s some modern decks i got in the post yesterday

so very cool and much appreciated - seeing the cards directly side by side, you're really able to recognize the distinct differences and similarities between the older and newer designs - Thank you so much for the post! (also, for the convenience of not having to rummage through the other posts on another thread - although, I'll have to spend some time to admire your cards there too :)) Anyway, your post gives me really whole new appreciation for the craft and I get to learn a little something too, so for that, I thank you as well lol

Both the Bussemacher deck and the circular PW deck are great and I can admire some of the liberties Bussemacher took in changing/improving some aspects of the design while still maintaining the bones & underlying structure of the artwork - so although some of the cards are essentially direct copies in principle, he was able to stay true to his aesthetic and infused a bit of his own artistry - most notably in that bird design. Very neat to see both examples beside one another :) (exactly what I was interested in and then some! lol)

Thanks again! :D

Hi Ian, It is always a pleasure to show your cards off 8-)

Here`s some more cards.
A modern Hyakunin Isshu Uta Garuta Boxset. the "Game of 100 Poems" set consists of 200 cards split into 2 sets of 100, The first set known as Yomifuda consists of the first few lines of a poem and an image a poet, the second set known as Torifuda consists of the last lines of a poem. The object of the game is to match the Yomifuda with its corrosponding Torifuda.

A pack printed by Frommann & Morian of Darnstadt, Germany in the 1870`s.
2.jpg
A Limited edition Box set by Dominic Murphy. The box contains 2 sets of Major Arcana titled "Bahomet" & "Trismagistus"
6.jpg
A much loved and used (grubby) antique English pack printed by Hardy & Sons. The duty "Old Frizzle" Ace was introduced in 1828 and Hardy & Sons stopped printing cards in 1840, so we can narrow down the age of the deck to a 12 year period.

Ooh! I wonder if my Interlude is soon to arrive as well. Thanks for the preview, Jase :D

Do you play hanafuda at all, or just collect them? I learned how to play Go-Stop from some Korean exchange students in high school, but when I went to Japan I was surprised to see even many middle-aged people don't know how to play with them....

That Waddington set is cool. I have never seen a five suit deck of cards before.

The Goblin deck reminds me of the art in Where the Wild Things Are (the first book I read by myself. lol)

I have loaded the new Delirium decks in Portfolio52, if a moderator will approve it (or let me be a contributor - hint). Anyway, it will be up before too long.

That Apache deck is really interesting. I did a bit of internet digging. There is actually a book published in 2006 on them here:

https://www.ebay.com/p/Playing-Cards-of ... 159&chn=ps

On Abebooks, that cost goes up to $150 and higher interestingly.

Ebay also has a deck for sale, but this looks to be just the booklet. I see several printings on Abebooks, going back to the early 1960's. I even saw one set on Ruby Lane for $175, which again is just some color pages, but no playing cards.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/WAYLAND-PLAYIN ... 1438.l2649

https://www.rubylane.com/item/404269-T0 ... graph-No-3

Ah, post 666 for me. On to 6969.

Oh yeah, my mind is spinning on a six suit deck.

Thanks for looking at my cards, Jase :D
Thanks Jase for your kind words. I am glad to see this unique handcrafted deck is now part of your collection. After reading your post, two collectors contacted me for handmade Ganjifa decks with very specific and custom themes not seen anywhere apart from the Rudolph Von Leyden's book on the subject, and the work starts on them this week.

Thanks again.
