acetofive wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 7:41 pmHave you tried stopping down a bit (i.e. f/4, f/5.6...etc)? It will cost in lower shutter speeds or higher ISO (ISO you can adjust in Program Mode), or brighter lights, but this might help the image look sharper even when it's already in focus and on a tripod.
I don’t think I have control of the f stop or shutter speed - I do have an exposure setting (ev) which I have tried adjusting, and I’ve adjusted the ISO, but the f/X and shutter speed seem to have no manual setting available - thus the Auto doing a better job than I can manage when in program mode…
Perhaps I am missing it and its hiding on me…
I do see the Auto still using the wide open 2.8 in the latest pics, with shutter speeds adjusted from 1/60 to 1/100 as it saw fit

GandolfPC: I looked up the 810 to double check (see your PM box). You're correct - you have no direct control of aperture or shutter speed. However: the 810 has an Auto Mode - in which you can't adjust anything, and a Program Mode, which grants you some control. Program will adjust aperture and shutter speed for you, but now you have control of many other things - ISO, White Balance, Exposure Compensation, etc. You indirectly control aperture (f/stops) and shutter speeds by adjusting ISO: Higher ISO = smaller apertures (higher f/stop numbers), and faster shutter speeds. Generally, increase ISO just enough to get the shutter speed and f/stop you want but not so much that you get more noise in the image than you want. Program Modes generally increase/decrease both f/stops and shutter speeds incrementally at the same rate as you adjust ISO numbers (you can run a little experiment to check this). Very likely, if you increase ISO one stop, say from 100 to 200, you'll see one of the two exposure settings (f/stop and shutter speed) increase by one stop. Increase ISO again another stop, say from 200 to 400, and now you'll see the other setting (f/stop or shutter speed) also increase by one stop, and so on. (some cameras now do both at the same time.) So the reason you would do this is 1) to get fast enough shutter speeds to stop blur from camera motion, 2) to avoid the soft look of a lens wide open, and 3) a deeper depth of field when you want one (or lower ISO to do the opposite). Sorry to get so long winded - I teach (taught) photography so I tend to talk like this.

Much appreciated
I kind of remember noticing that an ISO around 400 was doing a better job in program mode - was trying to keep that down lower as I really didn’t understand any more than “100 better” which is seems is a bit less true than I thought, at least in the case of how I have to deal with my camera
I’ll give some 200 and 400 shots a try a bit more fearlessly and see if I can get program mode wrangled back in

Are you gonna race through those like a kid at Christmas, or turn the lights down low, put on some Al Green, and take is slow while sipping a cocktail?

That transformation deck is one I am likely most keen on acquiring some day if it ever pops up, not only because it is exquisite, but also because it was created the year I was born (if we go with 1993).

Picked up another 3 Karl’s earlier today - hopefully - still waiting for order confirmation, saw that one had already slipped through my fingers - gotta stay vigilant - no days off in the Karl collecting game…

I'm sorry, but I find this hard to believe. I don't think it's possible that anybody born after I graduated from college could *possibly* be old enough to collect playing cards just yet. I mean... right? They'd still be in grade school, right?

It bothers me that there are people that were born after 9/11 happened that are now old enough to drink.

Being a Brit I'm not sure what age is college graduation or grade school, but I was definitely working (and driving) in '93 and therefore relate to your incredulity. [MURRAY]
