What was your method of reaching out to him?

What's the consensus here? Is everyone bailing on this? If it ain't happening, we all should get automatic refunds!

I'm still in for now. I just emailed Alex stating that he provided a phenomenal Nazo Nazo update, and if we should expect a Blind Tiger update in the same vein.

Me, too; and I'll most likely ride it out no matter how long it takes.

I'm still in. I would, however, appreciate the occasional update. I'm silly that way.

Given the nature of not wanting to tease the gimmick until we receive the cards in person, Alex is asking what sort of update would we want to hear as customers. I for one would appreciate production updates, especially given the delay - even if we're not seeing the cards yet. What are others' thoughts?

Basically when is printing starting, when it is anticipated to be done, when is approximate shipping time. Don't need artwork I think

I responded back to him with this:
We've already put our faith in you blindly with the Blind Tiger gimmick, so I don't think anyone, including myself, is expecting any actual pictures of the cards.
We are looking more for production timelines and updates. Has the artwork been sent to the printer? Has printing started? When will it be expected to complete? What's the anticipated shipping time? I trust you have enough experience to be able to gauge somewhat accurate timelines, but regardless, concrete production information would be helpful.

Just to be clear, my asking for a refund was in line with my own reduction in spending on playing cards and has nothing to do with my faith in Alex being able to deliver on this project (or any other project). Personal decision only.

Regarding what kind of updates we would want: Look at any project managed by Lorenzo G (Stockholm 17). Photos are not required in the least. Just an indication of how far along the path are the various moving parts of the project. Montenzi also has been good about touching base at least once a month, even if it's only to say something along the lines of, "the printer still hasn't given us a date yet, but we are still in the queue, so nothing new to report." That monthly, "hello, still here!" is immensely reassuring. Lotrek, for all his many, many delays, manages to keep the angry mobs at bay by occasionally popping up with "the dog ate my homework" updates.
We all showed the creators love when we put our money down on a project that wasn't complete yet. Show the backers some love with a monthly "thinking of you" note. We can wait a lonnnng time for our decks if you just show a little love. (not that we want to wait a lonnng time, but you know what I mean.)

I am still in, and won’t back out
Although, i might be making an unpopular opinion here, but I suggests Alex tone down this year’s NPCCD should it happened: instead of 6 decks, maybe just three or four, or to play it even safe, back to 1

Ye I seriously don't understand creators who think too many updates are a bad thing. This isn't directed at Alex because there have been personal issues, but a lot of creators just don't do updates when there is nothing to report to their own detriment. I have never seen a backer say "don't give us updates". Updates let backers know the creator is still around. Like you said it's reassuring knowing the creator is still checking in on various parts of production. I've seen it time and time again. Creators are afraid to do an update that has no info even though that's infinitely better than no updates for months and then one big update. Sorry for going off on a tangent.

Personally I am concerned that he may feel too much pressure to rush to make up for the time that was lost - I would rather the deck get all the time it needs and not suffer from the circumstances.
I know he’s not the kind of guy to produce less than his best - so I’m not that worried - but I just don’t want it to suffer one hairs worth.

I'm sticking with Alex. He has always delivered. He's an honorable guy. He has had some setbacks, and when he is feeling well he will no doubt give us one of the nicest decks of the year. Or next...

One simply needs to consider the reputations of Vanda and VXD to see the difference updates make.

Tbh, nothing suggests to me that these decks will be ready and delivered by October other than a misleading newsletter stating you’ll receive a secret deck when completed
Another excuse is coming I can feel it

I hear you, but that's not the point at which I was getting. What I want, what I assume other backers want, is transparency. Show me what you accomplished in the intervening period, tell me about the hurdles, be honest with your estimation of the delivery date. So long as it reads genuine, I won't penalize a creator's reputation.

He agreed that these were great points. He acknowledged it's been difficult to handle everything on his own and maybe he should hire employees to help. I asked him if there is any way I or we can help. He mentioned he's going to work on setting something up like I suggested. We shall see. I'm going to reach out again and let him know that the updates don't need to be a page long where it's pressure on him to write something perfectly.

Great points, hmmm...
Does that means, we WON'T be seeing any WIPs until those decks are ACTUALLY on our hands? Quite fitting for its "Blind" theme! It's like CRYPT by Lotrek and Devotion by TWI, only for this one - we HAVE NO IDEA of everything.

I still think it's a great idea for him to just cancel everyone's orders. Then start fresh with new pre-orders when he is ready. A win-win situation for everyone!
