I dig the tuck and back design, but the courts feel like they have a lot of empty space. Those skeletons are pretty skinny dudes and leave a lot of white space on the card. Given the cost with shipping its a tentative pass from me.

Sigh. We're doing this again? Really? Really? Okay.

Look, the art quality isn't bad. Not stunning, but decent. The back design is serviceable and could be improved considerably by just removing the text banners, which look cheesy without contributing anything. But "spooky skeleton deck" is a damn crowded field and I don't see anything here that I haven't seen, conservatively, about a dozen times before.

Who is buying all these spooky skeleton decks? Can we give that guy an intervention?

I am okay with the design and such. The EB pricing was nice, then shipping costs killed it for me.

As others have said, I HATE how much "white space" is on the courts and I could do without that text banner on the back. But over all, not bad.

So, it's clear the artist took some time to research a few infamous pirates to help build and design his concept around (and I greatly appreciate that), but why on earth did he not consider to incorporate some of the key features or story details of the real-life pirates into the design of the cards they supposedly represent to characterize them as such?!?!?

Like for example, the KoS is said to represent "Blackbeard", a nickname given to him because of (wait for it) his black beard - so wouldn't that be depicted in the design - give that skeleton a black beard for crying out loud! lol

or the KoC - "Cloth Jack" known for wearing striped trousers and coats - why not add in some stripes??

To me, the pirates and their card counterparts all seem to have been arbitrarily matched to one another and is huge missed opportunity to push this deck further into something more than just a bunch of indistinguishable pirate-skeletons.

Okay, you lost me at Bocopo.

Then, generic skeletons. I love a good skeleton deck, but this is... generic.

But, then: whoa! Fascinating pirate stories! Good research! Compelling characters! Maybe I was too quick to disregarrrd.

Oh, wait. The court cards don't match the pirate bios in the least. And, the Queen illustrations are all women, while the bios and descriptions are of men, with only one exception.

No need to see the price tag. There's no room in the hold for these.

although, yes, piracy was a mostly male-dominated profession, it's not like there weren't other badass female pirates the designer could've included - like Ching Shih, the infamous prostitute-turned-pirate-lord of China; even she was referenced and inspired a character in the Pirate of the Caribbean franchise - now she would've been a perfect fit in this deck as a queen.

or also Mary Read (who went by Mark Read and, like Anne Bonny, hid her gender) - she could've also been a queen.

Anyways, my point being that even though there weren't very many, there most definitely were more than just one female pirate in history that the designer could've used for queens... again, another missed opportunity...

"bocopo = nonono"
"Okay, you lost me at Bocopo."

Why the dislike for Bocopo? I understand that some of their designs aren't the best but they produce high quality decks rather quickly consistently. And the fact that some of their deck designs are kinda lame shouldn't really factor in when evaluating one individual deck.

Can anyone shed some light on why there seems to be an anti Bocopo attitude?

The Bocopo=Nonono was funny.

I don't won't to compare Bocopo to the infamous CPC but they put out a lot of mediocre decks too and also have great shipping/delivery.
