If they aren't the deck from the 70's then... what's the point?

I thought the appeal was the unique(?) finish - it's different on each side for starters

I'm not sure how i should feel about these...
On one hand JN's are so rare and expensive nowadays, and they have 50 years anniversary next year... so maybe a good thing.
On the other hand you can't trust anyone if you try to get the real authentic decks from 1970. There are fake nuggets (chaep china decks!) on the market and then the reprints aswell.....

If it's not a reproduction of the original stock and finish, it's really just a mediocre casino deck

The point is to earn money. Maybe JN casino is about to be broke again?
First I thought it is a joke or just fake, but more and more people are starting to feed the hype. Kindo ridiculous but I thought it is fun to share.

I guess this is due to, there is not much to understand.
JN are hyped and the casino thinks, "Hey, maybe we can cash in on the hype". I mean, the point of a casino is to get to people's wallets. JN does not really profit from the aftermarket, except for their name being known; so now they try to make a quick buck.

I do not think this is possible. I have a PDF somewhere from Lee Asher that goes into detail but the gist of it is that the old decks from the 70's were printed on cotton rollers which are not in use any more; in fact I'm not sure they even exist anymore. Furthermore I believe the ink and/or finish used on the original decks is now illegal by today's standards.
So while this effort might be legit, the hope to come close to the originals will fall short.

It is technically possible, but as you correctly mentioned, not in a legal and/or cost efficiant way. But they don't have to anyways. I think people will by them anyways, just for the same reasons people buy reproductions of other decks; because the original is too expensive to get.

It is literally not possible to recreate the cards in the same way as the original. There are chemicals in the old coatings that are now banned by the EPA and are no longer in use by USPCC, due to legal compliance and their efforts to go green (Recycled paper, vegetable inks, etc). The old decks also used different types of rollers that are no longer used, etc.
These will be the same in look only. Assuming that they're printing with USPCC, they'll feel more or less like any other modern USPCC deck.
If you want the feel of the originals (which IMO isn't that great - I've handled OG Jerry's) you'll still need to spring for the old ones.
If all you're into is the look, then I don't see why the JN people shouldn't be able to make a buck off of their brand, rather than all the other tributes and counterfeits.

Nothing says "1970s casino" like potentially lethal playing cards. I for one, am intrigued by this new deck.

I prefer the JN Finish prototype deck to the actual Jerry's Nugget decks anyways.

Consistency, I guess, would be the best explanation.
I don't do cardistry anymore (not that I was ever very good or anything), but handling the JN Finish deck was/is just more consistent, especially if you're doing doing anything face-to-face/back-to-back/etc. I feel like it has all of the positives of the Jerry's Nuggets with none of the negatives.

I think this is the key here. The vast majority of JN decks were sold off for fifty cents to a dollar a deck in their souvenir shop in the '70s and '80s, so it's not like they made much money off those. They see the prices of their decks skyrocket in the aftermarket, and even cheesy knock-off like the Chicken Nugget deck gets sold out, so they figure, "Why not sell "authentic" reproduction JN's and cash in?" I'm not sure why they didn't do this long ago. I'm kind of skeptical of this rumored KS campaign, though. Why would the Jerry's Nugget Casino have to go through Kickstarter? Surely they have the means to self-fund without help of a KS campaign, and they have the relationship with the USPCC to print their own run of decks and sell directly to the market, so why give KS any cut? I'm wondering if it's just some person who got a license from Jerry's Nugget Casino and is doing it on his own.
In any event, if these are indeed authentic JNs reproduced by the casino, they'll be printed by the USPCC. This means they'll handle much better than the original decks. Honestly, real JNs don't fan as well as any Air Cushioned deck because of how they're finished on only one side and, well, they're now 50 years old. But they won't have that magical card stock that was so thin yet so stiff and so amazingly durable. There's no reproducing that kind of snap.

Why does a casino need to kickstart a deck?
I have no problem with JN making money off their own name, obviously no one else deserves it more than they do and so far as cards go everyone but them is making money.
But surely they would be aware that it's the stock and finish that makes the deck legendary? I mean yeah forget the poisoned ink, but what would get me to buy JN cards is something that feels like 70s casino cards even if that's not the ideal for modern cardistry. Considering originals sell for >$500 and don't gather dust waiting for a buyer, if the reproduction were good enough to please they could afford to charge quite a premium and still expect to sell plenty of decks.

Its not a bad idea to judge what public interest is.
From a practical point of view its not a bad idea either. no magician wants random strangers in a bar groping a $500 deck. Plus, they are a great story to work into a routine. Reproductions are nice to look at, remakes like this offer the upgrades like crushed stock, and finishes that working magicians have come to rely on. (That was not intended to sound like an ad)

Dan buck mentioned it in TGW's interview; yeah, it's impossible to recreate due to the printing business going out of business, the ink not produced anymore, and the finish extinct for good.

This reproduction and the original hold zero interest to me. Wish them well, but not my cup of tea.

You're right...it is literally impossible to replicate the finish but as a few of my Divine Art backers would know, an effort was made to replicate the unique finish on Divine Art Playing Cards deck with only one sided embossing, chemical dyes (and not vegetable dyes) etc. Using vegetable dyes etc. is a strict requirement in US but you can still get chemical inks elsewhere.
Jerry's Nugget command high premium on eBay etc., so there will be attempts made to replicate or reprint the decks for sure. For the rest who won't fall for it, I am hoping you at least have 1 Divine Art deck with you as at least it resembles closely or is inspired from the finish of the original which any of the reprints won't be able to attain.
