If by someone you mean Kenneth Wayne Preston, then yeah. Not sure he ever had any real ideas to begin with.

I think this deck is hilarious, and I'm almost tempted to pick one up just for the sheer audacity of it. *Almost*.

I tip my hat to Jackson and to his alter ego, Kenneth Wayne.

Oh, and I have no doubts this deck will sell out by the end of the day. :D

I really doubt it will sell out today. In an hour, only 109 decks have been sold.

Ah. I haven't checked.

Well, if I'm wrong about that, then I'm wrong about that. I was wrong once before, too. Heh.

I guess some kudos due for truth in advertising but I'm still not impressed. Been a long while since I've been motivated to pick up a deck from KWP. I'm also seeing a lot of older decks (like Chocolate Pi) for sale prices at a lot of resellers so might be that trying to scale is hitting a ceiling.

These days I focus a lot more on unique designs from people like Lorenzo, Gio, Lotrek, Jocu and Jack Brutus Penny. As always, I buy what appeals to me,especially with the increasing costs of international shipping and Brexit challenges.

I don't know that I would say "truth in advertising", which implies Jackson is just trying to pump out decks purely for money. This series is clearly focused on parodying overblown hype decks like Fontaines. I don't think the goal here is to make a deck that people are impressed by.

Yeah, that's not a goal a deck designer would want to pursue at all.

Obviously he wants to make decks that people like and will buy, but that isn't really the point of this particular deck series. It's making fun of brands like Fontaines which will simply release a color swap of a simple design and then sell out immediately.

This is still a good deck in its own right. I appreciate the humor and I personally like the design, so I'll end up picking one up at some point.

No one can call Jackson "not creative." Based on his track record, he's earned the right to design decks like this, like 'em or not.

Nobody needs to earn the right to release any deck they want, lol.
It's funny that some people who buy this or a block of wood are still thinking they're in any shape or form different to people supporting fontaine.

Well, I would get this one like I would get the Trolldeck Chinese Chessboard deck if I had the extra $. Just for the humour behind the deck. I'm a big Weird Al fan, so I dig parodies. :ugking:

I didn't think I would have to explain that this is definitely not the same thing.

I see these as "making fun" of Jackson himself and the people who accuse him of money grabs (remember Jack$son?), rather than a take on Fontaines and the like. I think it is fine for what it is, but not as cool or funny as he seems to think it is. It is the wrong kind of self-effacing and hurts my opinion of him. Ever since he adopted his "Get you some" hyper persona in his videos (which I know is just marketing and engagement) I stopped viewing him as an artist and now see him more as a brand personality. He can still be brilliant (Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland) but spends more time regurgitating. This is just my opinion and I know many others hold a different view.

I could see the making fun of himself a bit, especially with the past accusations. Obviously he's hamming it up as Kenneth and is not everyone's type of humor.

I think if you watch his Youtube livestreams, you'll see that while he definitely has a strong personality that he plays up in his videos, his art is clearly paramount to him. At the end of the day, he has a business to run and people to support, but his art is very important to him. I do see him as a bit of a brand personality, that's how he sells more decks, but I wouldn't say he's more that than an artist. Even with his rereleases (e.g. Fed 52), I think he honestly enjoys making them and actually likes the all the designs he makes (even the simplified Fed 52 tucks), as opposed to just resubmitting the same files to the printer again. He says all the time that if he doesn't like something or isn't feeling it, he won't produce it. I think the next year will see a lot of great new things from Jackson.

i think the irony is that fontaine has more creative recent releases (fever dreams series) than kings wild has had (tuck swap old deck reprints, but this time they're SHINY). maybe fontaine should release a block of wood that epcc puts foil all over and then we will have come full circle

I'd see it as more of a joke if he charged a reasonable price for them (sub $10). $16 isn't funny at all, I expect a lot better deck for $16.

His choice to do this sort of product.

My choice to feel how I do about it.

Your choice to not agree.

Love that we can all have opinions, voice them and vote with our wallets for what the right thing for us to personally purchase is. The fact that there are 288 out of 450 left is certainly saying something about how people feel about purchasing it IMO.

+💯

Don't forget to substract the completists who only buy to keep their collection complete and resellers that only buy because they are limited to 450. Leaves you with one or two who really liked the deck.

I’d be curious to know how many people have actually managed to get a complete collection of every single deck KWP has made. Anyone?

I know for sure there is not anyone that has every single decks and variety of KWP decks. There is a 1 of 1 Intaglio deck that was unsold. That alone can tell me that noone has them all, unless maybe Jackson, but I know he is missing some versions. I long gave up even thinking of trying. That said, having some of his rarities can be fun as long as you don't get rattled you don't have everything. I have avoided the Kenneth Wayne Preston decks, but I appreciate the humor behind the deck. I also look at it as a bit of a stress relief for Jackson. Just something fun for him and a few folks. Nothing wrong with that.

Especially with a steady supply of KWP decks via subscriptions, I usually skip the other releases. Maybe I'll grab one of these one day? No rush IMO
