I'm glad he took mine and others' suggestions to incorporate add-ons! This is truly a fantastic deck that I hope gets the attention it deserves.

Oh this is really nice. It's got an ambitious funding goal for sure with only 1 deck offering and a newcomer. Not sure it'll fund but I'll be saving it to see how it goes.

Very nice take on the standard courts. I'm not sure if I like the suits being a mixed bag of colours. While I don't have a problem with four colour suits at all and am aware that these don't even try in the slightest to be a playable deck of cards, this is still pushing it for me.
Back design and tuck box feel a bit like a TXI approach to cards but with all the colours on the faces I'd say the contrast is quite a good thing to have.

I like this deck but based on the funding so far, I would be surprised if it makes its goal.

I despise this. It renders the deck almost unplayable. And the main reason this pisses me off is because I like the rest of the deck so much.

Hey Everyone,
It's Andrei, the creator of Artist Playing Cards. Thank you so much PiazzaDelivery for starting this thread! I wanted to address some the reasons for why I approached the deck design this way. First and foremost, the deck is about the the face cards. I wanted to explore the variety of styles present in each art movement. But in doing so, I didn't want to limit color scheme or clash styles. I didn't want to ruin any card's individual beauty for uniformity sake. Thus, a black and red design was out of the question. Instead a I found this interesting alternating pattern, that provided a structure while also allowed every court and pip to be 100% it's own thing. By keeping the suit shapes consistent, I wanted to strike a balance, between stylistic variety and card uniformity. The back design and box were designed to contrast the uproarious color and patterns in the deck with a clean and elegant home. This is what I found worked. Having done magic and cardistry, I fell in love with playing card design and this is my first entry. I understand these aren't for everyone but neither is the D&D Ultimate Deck. The difference is I wanted to make deck focused around artistic styles while also being structured & readable. I really hope you all support this project!

Welcome to UC and thanks for checking in. Not a single deck existing on this planet is for everyone so, never try to achieve that anyways.

I don't think it's too difficult for anyone to catch on to the design's internal logic. This is great work, and really nice for a first-timer. In for a pair.

Thank you so much!
I really need all the support I can get! I made a retailer reward tier with reduced pricing for businesses looking to sell these. And, I'm looking to create a stretch goal of the deck in red. But first, I got to get to my goal. So please, if anyone knows any retailers or backers that love fine art and playing cards, this is the deck for them!

Hey Everyone!
My name is Andrei Captan and welcome to Artist Playing Cards! I've been working on this deck for several years now and I recently made my Kickstarter debut! In this deck, every suit represents a different Art Movement (Renaissance, Expressionism, Impressionism, Surrealism). And with a museum inspired tuck and back design, I like to think of it as a "Museum In Your Pocket". I've drawn for as long as I can remember and illustrated and designed the entire deck myself! And although I heavily researched the art movements and found playing cards when I was 12, I'm just 21 and new to this Kickstarter journey. Putting this campaign together has been a huge learning experience, so any and all support and advice is greatly appreciated! I hope you enjoy these cards as much as I do and choose to back this project! Anything from a deck to signed decks and even having your name featured in the deck, all these rewards are up for grabs! Help make these a reality and check them out in the link below!

Anyone know if any magic and/or card companies back Kickstarters? Art of Play, Penguin Magic, etc?

Really? Amazing! I actually reached to them over this weekend so hopefully I hear back soon after the holiday break! I think they'd like the Retailer Reward.

So I think you are going to have a hard time getting this deck funded and I'll give you my thoughts as an experienced KS backer and collector as to why;
1. Your goal is very very high for a single deck. This means you need more backers as most will not buy huge quantity. $20K for a single deck is already quite high but then add the fact that you aren't putting shipping costs into that goal (see 2) means it will be even harder to reach.
2. Shipping after the fact is indeed the way that I think most campaigns should go, but you haven't provided any sort of expectation as to what that cost will be. it also means that the per-deck cost for your campaign is likely to be on the high side.
3. Who is doing fulfillment? No offense and I'm all for supporting people who are trying something, but as a full time student are you planning to fulfill yourself? If so this would be another warning flag for me, I've seen too many people with great intentions but no idea of the logistics involved fail at this step. If you reached your 20K goal with your current backer level you would be mailing well over 600 packages, at least 40% of those to international addresses. That's a lot.
4. Your deck is an art deck. It's not playable as is. That doesn't mean it's not a good deck or an interesting one (I quite like the design myself) but it does limit the market somewhat.
Those are the main issues for me. You might want to rethink your campaign or look to partner with an experienced deck producer as that would go a long way towards addressing the issues.

I echo 1 through 3, especially the big funding goal. Should it come to this, there is absolutely no shame in cancelling, retooling, and relaunching a campaign.

Will Roya (PCD) comes to mind when it comes to Bicycle branded decks as well. Maybe reach out to him.

I agree, the goal is high but this was done to help cover some of the expenses needed to get the deck and campaign to where it is now. Shipping costs aren't included but estimates will be posted shortly. This is because we are partnering with a former Kickstarter funded business to help ship orders. So the fulfillment end of things is under control!

I've recently been in touch with Gamblers Warehouse for fulfillment. Anyone have any thoughts on going with them? Their pricing seems to be very good! And they know playing cards!

To echo Piazzadelivery, Gamblers is the OG of card fulfilment. They've done their own decks on KS and will also print tuckboxes for you at cheaper prices than USPCC for fancy tucks. Gilding also included in their list of services.
For basic fulfilment, you can also check out Henry of Socal Playing Cards and Will Roya of PCD as well. SoCal does fulfillment for Jocu's US orders and PCD will do it for any deck they produce, but not sure if they'll do it for non PCD decks. Still, worth checking out to see how they compare with GW. Not sure if they can get the volume discount the GW does, but at least you get a better idea of what's out there.
Deallez and 52Wonders are used by Lotrek and Lorenzo in Europe for their decks to avoid EU taxes, so those are worth considering if you've got a sizeable EU, Rest of world backer numbers.

Definitely looking into it! Planning to post pricing very soon! Also, we just hit 10K! Half way there!

Sounds kinda surreal. I've seen projects being funded and fulfilled with less than your half-way through. No offense, just an observation.

I've been thinking about adding prints as add-ons to the campaign. Is that something anyone would be interested in? Something like 8.5 x 11. Buy them as a set for each suit.

Hey! Again, just curious about prints. I think they could be a cool addition for people looking to see the artwork in more detail! Just me though, I'd love anyone's thoughts.

You may not find people voicing up here, but I wouldn’t let that deter you - from looking over your pledges there are a decent number of people going for signed decks and larger packages - seems to me they might like to add prints.
