I like the premise, but the execution is lacking imo. The underlying concept is really really good though, and I hope we will see more of it.
There have been plenty of decks that carry a story that underpins the style, themes, courts, etc., but, correct me if I'm wrong, there haven't been any that tell a sequential narrative in a visual manner; none that feature cards and/or court characters that, when placed in proper order, can be seen to interact with, or flow from one another to reveal a sequence of events in a purely visual way. This kind of deck would have to work out of sequence, the cards would have to work as standalones as well. I take it this kind of thing would be challenging to elaborate, but I've but wondering when such a design would finally arise. This is a simplistic attempt, but definitely commendable for doing something outside of the box.
edit: Thinking about it, Passione's Pinocchio comes to mind, but the story elements jump all over and the text on the cards don't exactly meet the criteria I'm getting at.
And I don't mean simply flip-book. I'm talking less about "movement" and more about narrative.

Not so sure about what you mean by "there haven't been any that tell a sequential narrative in a visual manner", as we supposed that the animation is a purely visual thing that shows how the pips are fused with the game mechanism and each card undoubtedly interacts with the other to make the animation works.
Still, thanks for your opinion

I believe they were hoping for more story with the animation in a deck, not sure it would apply to your deck as the story it tells is a singular tale of a classic game, but it is an idea for others.

I sure did love playing this in 2003 on my Nokia for 5 straight days before having to charge it. Ah, the good old days...

Those were the glory days.
The achievement of having mastered the game, that the whole display was covered with the snake and it became an ouroboros will ever be enshrined in me memories.

Thanks for helping explain.
You're right. This deck is based on the classic game, so it might look rather "simple" to some people.
Perhaps we can have more "story" for future designs when we work with "modern" games.
