Interesting, I had always figured AoP would do these type of artist decks. But nice that T11 is branching more into different themes. Here's hoping they will do Basquiat's art justice with this deck

Since last years Whitney Museum collaboration it was clear that TXI wants the artsy share like AoP as well.
With Basquiat being one of my favorite artists, this could be a TXI deck I'll get. With TXI being TXI, this could be another dropped ball. The Shanell Martin deck had repeating courts so I fear for a similar smurf up.

it is just crazy to me what passes for art sometimes. looks like 3rd grader scribbles.

Art can indeed be anything - but it is often more about perspective, ideas and emotions than it is about skill needed to duplicate.
Once you have come to accept the cubists or any like movement its easy enough to accept a scribble style - takes a while for me to determine how such things strike me, as they usually first strike me sour - like the first time an odd song is heard.
I think the concept of perfection being “when nothing need be added and nothing more can be removed” is what brings these things together - art portrayed in its simplest form, describing complex things - perhaps also an attempt to antagonize the market
In this case I saw in the article above that a critic questioned the movement - one imagines that happened by more than one, and more than once - for this and all the others - but the fans like em
It is of note that he has passed, so his estate art is being used to make the deck like the Jackson Pollack deck - unlike the Shantell Martin and Salvador Dali deck (not sure which other artists made decks directly)

I play the trumpet - so I may have to get a deck just for their choice of KS
Looking at other trumpet art (and photos) on google, you can find lots of styles - each says something when you look at it, none say what the Basquiat says - none hold that emotion - not sure how the rest of the deck will hit me…
I will add that if my child drew that card I would be scared to sleep at night.

Theory 11 is going down a road I don't want to travel. I'm OK with their pop culture decks in the $12.99 price range.

No reprating courts? I'm kinda positively surprised.

That's probably why it's $15 instead of $13.
I'm not sure this deck is for me.

Lel... $15. I'm out. If Basquiat would be alive and this would support him I'll gladly pay even $20. But as is I'm not going to throw $15 at TXI.

Looks surprisingly authentic. Curious how all the bleeding edges will look from the side. I will definitely try to pick up on next sale. Hard for me to dislike anything Basquiat.

Edges look pretty cool on this one. Very authentic indeed, licensed by Basquiat Estate and Artestar. A lot of research and thought put into this deck, especially based on just how many assets there must have been from the Estate. Going to visit the King Pleasure exhibit that just opened in LA soon, curated by his family.
