************THIS IS A HEAVILY AI INFLUENCED DECK I KNOW SOME OF YOU HAVE STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT THAT*********
Sale ends 4/5
Heads up everyone, ill be doing an interesting experiment on friday for my next 24 hour enduro live. I will be creating a deck from scratch using Ai. I'm interested in the conversation we will have during it, in terms of Ai and art and using it as an artist. I'm fascinated with it, and have been developing my own views and thoughts about it over the past year, would love to have you around and in the convo.
(here he was commenting on how the AI screwed up)

here's the stream/video of the deck being generated

I didn't quite pay attention while inside his stream, so didn't see when Jackson goes to AI engine to quickly develop that painting style.
I'd HOPE he'd retouch this AI-generated artworks so it won't be heavily AI work...
I'd Pre-Ordered it because of the Fox Joker X.X

adding fox joker
I saw him clean some images up (including sometimes changing the geometry of the edge of a robe or what not) and he certainly didn't take the first thing it generated (I wont say I watched this in depth since it was just on in the background with the sound off). But pretty much the art it came up with after his adjusting commands is what he used.
On the joker I saw him letter the bottle by hand but I cant say if he then had the AI redraw it or not.

Doesn't he looked dashing? He looks so good in that costume, and looking closely on the liquor bottle, it's the exact thing saw on his deck.

Buying a deck because I like one joker seems like a silly reason but to each their own. I don't mind if AI is used. It depends more to me what the images look like than who or what made them but the AI haters are oddly quiet... cause it's kwp? It reminds me of all the people (including me) that were slowly quieted or pushed towards WJPC or other Chinese printers because the top designers started using them. Control the narrative and you can control the market.

I'm not quiet, I just didn't want to repeat myself. I also have no personal loyalty to KWP, merely the truth.
There's tiers of frustrations for me, with the worst being those who aren't transparent about their use of AI. In this case, Jackson is being upfront and inviting a discussion through his livestream.
If we have Nicolai using a different branding and not disclosing use of AI, then I certainly have a problem with it.
Seeing what Google Veo 3 can create nowadays with videos, I sense we'll see an appreciation for art that was printed pre-2023ish because there's less doubt whether it's AI or not.

I had buy one... can't resist! Easy reading, nice design, I like that oil painting images style. The gilded is my choice.

That’s a wide edge - perhaps bridge size would have made that design more fan friendly

Is the gilding going to be gold?
Do we know what the back is going to look like yet?
The joker looks brilliant but I wonder whether his costume is a little more recent than those of the courts.

Hey, I am sure everybody have preferences right? Like, one really love the courts yet not the back design, or one really love the back design but dissapointed on no custom courts. Or perhaps you are a tuck box lover, that you will get the deck from the tuck box design alone and ignore everything about the cards - T11, anyone? I personally have a thing on anthropomorphic animals, so any decks that at least have them, even just one, I highly will get them. The Parlour Playing Cards have animal jokers too.
And talking about AI, at current situation, looks like no matter how we make a stand, there's no denying that AI is to stay and they will keep on developing as we go through our daily life. Inevitable, so we have to adapt. As artists, either you reject them completely (like how James Cuda, app developer of painting app "Procreate" denied any AI installation to the app) or integrate AI in your workflow (like for this Intaglio 2025 deck, Jackson simply asked AI to generate a painting style of the OG's Intaglio courts, and he tuned it to make it better. Or you can use AI to conceptualiaze your idea, then work your way by human hands). We still voiced about AI, and it is not about big names that we can simply just let it slip by.
Kevork:
"There's tiers of frustrations for me, with the worst being those who aren't transparent about their use of AI"
I second this one and this will be the mantra at the current situation in a creative world.
Montezzi being transparent - he used AI to work on the deck he worked on (not sure if it's finished or not); Randy Butterfield being transparent - his Travel Deck claimed to use AI to generate the landscape illustrations then fine tuned it; Riccardo Conturbia being transparent - tAIpestry is that one deck which he used AI.

Is it THE mantra? I thought that most people that don't like AI is because of the lazy theft aspect.

So the backs are silver and blue and look good but that rules out gold gilding
Having red courts with gold frames (and black suits with silver frames) complicates things as silver gilding will not compliment them
Do you go with blue or red gilding?

Seems to me that Azure blue would compliment those backs but I am bias to that gilding color.

As the courts are breaking their frames, I don't mind the wide borders

Azure certainly compliments the silver but not so much the darkish blue of the back IMO. Azure might also be a bit too modern for these Old Royalty figures
I am thinking it has to be the red of the jewel on the back unless Jackson makes all the courts frames silver in which case silver gilding would obviously work

Yes, it’s true, but like I said, change is inevitable, and there seems to be no way on stopping AI engines to develop.
If one card creator simply using AI, just leave that be and goes “here’s the final thing” - that’s lazy, pure laziness
If one card creator uses AI, to create base for their design, or uses AI to conceptualize - that’s not lazy
It’s a matter of perspective.
Just to be clear, I am not defending big name such as Jackson of using AI

The courts and back had me (with some reservation about alternating silver and gold for the court 'framing')
I don't think gold compliments silver so with that silver back but gold gilding, I am leaning to the Standard deck
I don't really like the pips at all, I find them too ornate for me (Lotrek lovers will like) and the alternating silver and gold really stands out here and IMO does not work
Oh well, I have a couple of days to think about it
Jazz said you cannot buy a deck just for its jokers - can you buy one just for its courts?

I read your comment and thought, "ornate pips? I'd certainly like those."
I looked at the pips and they remind me too much of early 2000s video games which is usually not to my liking in print mediums.

One of the problems of the pip cards is that the pips and indices don't gel
Maybe if the indices were done in the same color scheme and style as the pips, they would look better?

I'm not a particular fan of this art style, AI or otherwise. Also feels odd to me that the corner indicies are normal pips but the pips on the layout are "ornate". The anthropomorphic fox having human hands is also quite off putting. Overall a big giant "meh" from me.

An interesting concept by Jackson to train the AI model on his previous Intaglio court cards. I applaud his transparency and it's certainly his prerogative to try this approach. That being said, this artwork doesn't seem connected to KWP, in my opinion. Looking at past and present projects by Jackson, I would never be able to identify this as one of his by simply looking at the art style.
I did find it odd he went with the gentleman fox joker as it is very similar to the Parlour version Lorenzo did a few years prior. Certainly not the same - just similar.
EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that Jackson has also used a Fox Joker in the past with Tally - nothing to see here.

I have certainly made my feelings about the use of AI quite clear - especially when AI artwork is claimed to be original when it clearly isn't. Jackson isn't hiding anything about his use of AI in this project so I can just simply tell myself "not for me" and not back the project. AI isn't going anywhere, so I understand there will be plenty of future projects I will simply not back and I will wish the creator luck. Why you feel the desire to stir the pot and manufacture controversy in a quiet thread is beyond me.

The human hands on the fox don't bother me at all. It's fascinating how we all have different nitpicks.
I see that he used the Intaglio courts for the AI, but the name itself doesn't seem to fit the art anymore. Jackson's original Intaglio series required him to engrave copper plates to create the decks that he did. A phenomenal and beautiful feat. I don't see that artform reflected in this deck whatsoever, so that's part of my qualms. I didn't watch the stream so maybe seeing the courts up-close may change my opinions.
The video on the original KS is a must-watch:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ki ... ng-card-se
Nevertheless, a genuine endeavor into unchartered territory by an artist...that's part of why Jackson doesn't get stale. He evolves and tries out things that excite him or make him curious, is my impression; all while authentically being himself.

I generally don't like AI tools for stuff like this. Often it lacks cohesion, feels lazy, is dishonest when the person using it isn't upfront about it, and is using others work to generate results. This project manages to sidestep all of those issues. He's upfront, using his own previous work to create results, and it feels cohesive. Still, like most AI art, it seems to lack "life". A certain spark that a lot of Jackson's work tends to have. So, I'm out on this. I like that he's trying new things, but this isn't a direction I like to see artists move to.
