Discussion for launch tracking

I really don't see any way for this to work effectively and meet the expectations for the forum.

Basically,we collectively noticed that at least three KS projects have announced funding on Tuesday, the 20th of January.

Let's see - Paul launches Jetsetter early morning, Lotrek lights the fuse on ICONS Byzantine - Imperial (luxury) edition, and (well, it's late, I am drawing a blank). I think it might be four.

The idea is to maintain a scheduling assistant for crowd funding projects to help artists plan and work around the huge money syphons. Of course, being voluntary, the list will only be as good as we collectively pull the artists & designers into the use of our calendar.

You could also do it as a real calendar - shared Google calendar for instance with a few key editors. Just a thought. Could be ongoing then and just use this thread as a link to the calendar and for discussing needed updates. I would like that because I could then see it with all my others and then just create a copy of an entry I care about and tick the notification checkbox on it.

Jetsetter is launching on the 20th as well, 7am EDT. Last I heard anyway.

That certainly sounds like the plan, Nate. I hope that the artists & designers will keep it up-to-date for everyone. It's a win-win scenario. They can plan accordingly and we will know what they are planning.

A Google Calendar seems the best solution - no reason not to have a unitedcardists@gmail.com lol

I can integrate links into the forum (like the PCDB link to the website)

There are also embed codes available for google calendars - so I could create a custom page on UC that (like I did for the simple "Shop" over on DR)
OR
I could create a BBCode to display the calendar direct in a post.

Mike - I'll take a look at setting this up of you like?

Told you I was busy this week! I read about half of that, sorry. Another interview tomorrow morning, with Donna at her doctor this morning.. Your password reset link came to me - imagine that. Lol...

Let me fix it, I don't think there is any mail in there, but I'll reset and send by email the new password.

Nice! Looks like somebody quietly added the 'Event Calendar' link to the top. :D http://unitedcardists.com/calendar.php

The button to add to your own calendar list on the bottom right is broken though, points to unitedcardists.com instead of google.com

This worked for me, http://www.google.com/calendar/render?c ... google.com

'Twaws I - good catch on the link. I co-opted googles own code and I suspect it's generating a reletive address - I'll see if I can fix it!

Edit - implemented a workaround by spoofing the URL that used to 404 then redirect to the correct google address!

Joe, you may have to record the code generated on the Google side. For some reason it had Pacific time and I changed it to MYC/Eastern for UC general calendar and GMT for the Deck Release calendar.

Great minds Mike -I literally just did the same thing (and updated the code) Showing GMT (but not BST for simplicity's sake)

We will play a bit more, then invite the Verified Designers and Deck Artists to use it. With any luck it will actually give everybody some insights, the artists and backers as well.

We should point out that the time used in the calendar is GMT / UTC so it's universal, as Joe and I have pointed out here. I suppose a project duration might help, but for now it will just make clutter.

Lorenzo's Bicycle N° 17 and Erik Mana's Buskers are in there already, and anyone else can add dates, but please be sure you adjust to GMT, as I have pointed out before http://TimeAndDate.com is your friend!

You shouldnt need to adjust your times: If you are adding the appointment from your own gmail account, using your local times is fine - google should recognise that and adjust according to the calendar on which the event is displayed.

(Though this is hard for me to test as my time zone is GMT lol)

Not yet added, this release on 2/17 (not a deck, but should be included I think)

OK, I added Orbiter 2.0 from Nate's description.

KS and commercial decks and related items are fine. I shortened the calendar name so it fits better on mobile devices.

I think it is ready, but let's just go with the Verified Designers group and Deck Artist group until we get confirmation that things work as planned. I see no problems, but I have full rights to adjust anything.

The key is to use the Google Calendar button (lower right) and select "Deck Release" instead of UnitedCardists calendar once you go to add a new item, or it doesn't show up.

That works for you because the Deck Release calendar is a public group calendar on the main UC account.

Others can add to the calendar by doing this:
1. (optional) Subscribe to the calendar by clicking the button to the bottom right
2. Create your launch event in your own Google calendar
3. Add 1pcg1r29f4a286a7en76cddf48@group.calendar.google.com as a guest
4. Save

The calendar should auto accept.

Mike obviously has control to modify or delete any event (me too for the time being- until Mike resets teh password lol) - you can do the same for the events you create.

I might make a little quick guide and add to the calendar page.

The google calendar works perfectly. It is great. You should make an announcement in the general forum to share.
Great idea.

Can we also please add the END dates for projects? That's just as important and will help to serve as a last minute reminder to jump aboard, withdraw or make any final changes. I would just suggest this be 2 DISTINCT dates and not a project duration of start date and end date that then has it show up for every day in between. It should be a specific date and time for start and a NEW entry for specific date and time for end. The initial entry once populated can just be duplicated in google calendar to keep all description info and then just tweak the title and update the date/time.

Side note - the PCDB Facebook midweek reminders are going away and hopefully I will hear that another group will take that over. However, even if that does happen I think this would be a great and important addition to the Event Calendar.

Now, if we could just get the artists to use it

I suppose we can all chip in and add things, but the plan was to let them "own" their entries so they could move them if needed.

I think this will probably be more of a us posting these and not artists. Some might, but most won't.

What time? Anyone can add a new launch time, you just use the "+Google Calendar" multicolored button at the bottom right of the calendar display page.

The idea was for the artists to do their own, but it appears that we are going to be doing it ourselves...

That's what I had thought, but it takes me to a google calendar sign in page. Am I supposed to sign in using my own gmail account, or is there a "united cardists calendar account" that i missed?

I guess we didn't think about that. These days anyone with an Android phone has one, and lots of people use them as "dead drops" (sign ups for mail you don't want to see).

No Google+ account for Hangouts? (they work as well)
