Hi everyone.
Here are the plans for my next deck for 2015. I created the fishing for compliments deck last year which is now in production.

Any comments are welcome for my new deck. SHERBERT

HaHaHa....It looks like the Muppets on Acid

I LOVE IT 8-)

Repeating courts are not so cool...maybe mix it up a bit with different facial expressions or the like.

I really like the back. I don't like how the back border color doesn't match the front. I love the pips and the courts look good too. I don't know how I feel about the tuck though but then again, I'm partial to Bicycle-branding. Speaking of which who's printing this? Either way, I'd very much consider pledging for this.

Hi there.

this will be Legends (LPCC) again. I used them for my last deck "Fishing for compliments" I will launch this deck once the process is complete for that deck and I am satisfied that Legends deliver great quality. I am really pleased with them so far though.

Yes the tuck box is not complete just yet I just wanted to share the project in its current state but I'm open to comments of course. Thanks for the feedback so far. I may create a custom title font on the tuck box....

Yes my courts used to vary in colour

+Tuck looks great (keep it a non Bicycle deck if it's USPCC) Lol
+Back looks great
+The pips are cool, good color choices

-The courts could show more distinction. Change the facial hair, have each of them holding something different in their hands, change their mouths, make only one suit have eyeballs, etc.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking, minus the acid specifics. Mostly because the muppets I'm thinking of are the guys in that band which would probably imply pot.

Totally agree about doing custom courts for every suit though, that is a deal breaker for me unless the deck is under $6 shipped.

. Yes they will definitely be adapted to include more variety, I just wanted to get some thoughts on the progress so far. They will be much more valuable this way and more interesting.

The kings will have varied facial hair
Queens will have different floral arrangements in their hand
The Jacks will have items in their hands
and I will alter the expressions across the board

Very unique. Very interesting. I'll have to let it sink in (see it several times) before I know if I really like it or not (I do the same thing with music), but there's no elements that stand out as negative so far.

But no white borders, please :ugroll:

Btw, the tuck says "Digital Petroglyphs" which got me curious: Is this a particular (established) art style, and if so could you tell us a bit about it?

The muppets thing is hilarious, I hadnt even thought about that.

When making them I had polynesian art in my mind but with a sherbert kick in its colour. Thats why the subtitle is digital petroglyphs because ancient petroglyphs are rock carvings and the face shapes of my courts reminded me of Easter island sculptures.

But muppets works for me also, ;)

I like these! Glad you plan on non-repeating courts. I also appreciate nods to traditions like the Suicide King, one-eyed Jack, etc...

I don't think I understand the name but, I'll be in for a couple!

Check out Oceanic or Polynesian art. Petroglyphs are rock carvings for art.

These are Digital Petrolglyphs, with a twist of modern sherbert. So no it is not established as much as it is a unique idea.

I don't usually care for pastel color palette, but I REALLY like these even with them and I'm sure I'll be in. Especially knowing each suit will have varied courts. Great work! I also appreciate the story behind it, that's really cool. Although I'll still see muppets forever as well! ;)

I also think that I agree about the white borders, I don't like any kind of framed courts personally, but it's not a deal breaker and you'll get many opinions on that.

I do wonder how much more awesome these would look with a more vibrant color palette though. Perhaps an alternate color option if you feel the need to retain this one?

I have tried so many colour pallettes and many work well. I would love to create stretch goals with various colour palettes. There was a lime green one that looked amazing also

I think the court cards repeat a little too much with only a slight variation. In addition, they all have the 3/4 profile, all looking the same direction. Consider the conventions of suicide king, one eyed-jacks and the directions each card faces. Just look at a pair of standard Bicycle Rider Back cards for the "norm".

Also look at the alignment of pips, with the same suit and across the same cards.

Example: With the King, Queen and Jack of spades, the Queen's spade pip is further down.

Yes of course. I use alignment tools once I place them into the template, right now they are just clubbed together. Once I have had feedback I will provide purely aligned versions ready to create my prototype sample deck. Im not quite there yet.

I think i`m about to stir up a hornets nest here but here goes.

i personally like to see custom cards go against what is considered the "Norm". in fact the more outlandish design the better i think, and while most people consider suicide kings and one eyed jacks the "Norm" many people don`t (Spain for example)
When i look at custom cards i don`t automatically think...that king of hearts has no sword through his head. or that jack is facing the wrong way... i think ...oh thats cool how the`ve done that.

That being said its all a matter of one`s taste...so

If stacey can incorporate what people consider the "norm" into her design, that all well and good just as long as her initial concept does not suffer for it.

Hey, don't worry, I won't be stabbing the king through the head in the traditional fashion, I think I'm going to choose something different here so it should be a surprise. Watch this space....

I don't mind cards that go against the norm, but IMO there needs to be a justification for doing so. Like if the design works better without them. But decks that just don't incorporate them when possible just seems lazy, and decks that directly contradict them just for the sake of being different (might be subjective) just seems silly.

With that in mind, I agree with the above post.

It certainly does seem so, Legends have even offered to buy it outright but I did really enjoy the Kickstarter experience so I have a big decision now. How encouraging though.

Legends offered to buy the design? That's interesting. They're not exactly known for their colorful decks.

Well I suppose thats why because its good for them have a range of different print styles. I certainly found it useful looking through their collection when considering how to print my own deck with them. Perhaps more varied examples would be good for them.

BB SHERBERT DEMO COURTS 3 small.jpg
SOme progress updates for court designs.
The one eyed Jack's are wearing a monocle. There is also a one eyed King.
The suicide king is hanging from a rope and is the only character with a white face. His bubble blowing has also ceased
Each character has its suit threaded into its tapestry
And facial hair and weapons are adapted throughout.

There is still plenty to tidy up and tweak but I am happy to share along the way.
