One way backs seem a bit unnecessary

Normally I am not one for one way backs. With this back though, I think it's fantastic. It tells a story that compliments the deck very well. I think it is necessary to the design of this deck and absolutely enhances the fun. This is after all a cardistry deck I think that's important to keep in mind.

Same here - normally I'd be right with you on this Vic, but it is quite subtle in this case - it wouldn't really be jarring to the eye to see one turned around in the deck.

As Fes implies, if it's not for magic then it isn't all that important (so long as the aesthetic isn't all over the place).

I like the look of it so far - if I had any criticism (without seeing more) it's that the border on the back seems thicker than the border on the face.

I much prefer two-way backs but I'm also under the impression that if they were all two-way it'd be boring. When one-way backs are blended in like this I like it!

I have to agree. The one way design works, just like several similarly themed decks just lose to much of their character if you try to force them into "compliance".

I don't see a problem with this one, it's intended to be different, and "it works for me".

Hello everyone!

Thanks to Eoghann for posting this. We're really glad you're enjoying the back design and discussing it. It was designed to be a point of difference, and the images on the back of the card are symbolic. They represent a larger metaphor and theme (Joker and the Thief) seen throughout the deck. The one way allowed for a unique look and connotation. We also didn't want anything jarring to the eye, as mentioned above. We are not a fan of this and we have found that this is subtle enough to be reversible.

As for the rest of the design, you will have seen bits and pieces. We have completely custom face cards, all the courts are different, AoS, Jokers, Pips, you name it. The box is also going to be completely tricked out.

We are announcing the project on March 1, but not releasing on March 1.

Thanks again!

Nice title. I like what I see so far. Still have to wait to see the price point before I make a decision.

Great through line with the artwork and story. I think this deck will do very well and the one way doesn't bother me at all....kind of refreshing actually. Looking forward to the tuck as well.

Nice work!

Hi guys, thanks for the positive replies! We're very happy you enjoy the cards. Here is our March 1 announcement;

Hi guys!

Today, we announce a project that we have been busy working on for the last 6 months.
On MARCH 20 we go live on Kickstarter!

We are proud to announce Joker and the Thief Playing Cards - Our debut deck of playing cards.

We present to you, a new, unique deck of cards that has deliberately strayed from the simplistic design trend. With companies such as Dan and Dave & Theory11 as our inspiration, we wanted to bring something new to the table.

Our design is completely illustrated from the ground up. The back, the fonts, pips, the queens, jacks, kings, jokers - Everything is completely new. The tuck box is tricked out, with amazing foil coverage, embossing, a printed interior, and a custom seal.

Not only have we tried to apply as many bells and whistles that we deemed suitable, the design also tells a story throughout the entire deck. This will be revealed further when the Kickstarter goes live on MARCH 20.

The design depicts various symbolic images that tie into larger metaphors - metaphors of life, mortality, thievery, lies, deceit, power, struggle, hurt, love. This connotation evokes this great sense of volume and depth.

On top of all this, we aim to print with the superb Expert playing Card Company, utilising their all new, and improved classic stock and finish. The very same stock and finish that was used on the fantastic Classic Gold, and Twins decks. And the same stock and finish that will be adorning, Franky Morales’ brand new Saturn Playing Cards.

All orders will be fulfilled by Art of Play, the amazing card company that takes care of orders from companies like Fontaine Cards. They are the same people who we have been making reviews with for the past year.

We are extremely excited to finally be seeing this project come together. We cannot wait to see these in your hands. We will be posting updates towards the 20th, so when that Kickstarter goes live, make sure to pick up a few.
Cheers,

James
Joker and the Thief

Love the line work and the big courts that fill up the card (decks with puny courts take note.) Now i think its gonna come down to the price, keep it reasonable and you should be good =)

We're fans of the Coens also. This meme made me laugh, haha.

Hey, there.

Do you mean 7pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time? The US has switched over to "Daylight Savings" time, so we are not currently on "Standard Time" (except in Arizona and parts of Indiana).
