BH Deck - Playing Cards / Live Indigogo

Unread post by Decknowledgy »

Found this from @bh_magician on Instagram, a cool Korean magician whose looking to put out this deck in the near future. Here's his message:
Yeah, guys, I've decided!
I'm going to do a playing card campaign!
Between Kickstarter and Indigogo platform, I am thinking of doing Indigogo.
Because I live in Korea.
Kickstarter doesn't have Korea on the national list.
Thank you very much for your many comments.
I will prepare hard!

This is the design of Ace Spade and Joker.
Maybe the other "face" design will be a standard design.

Any thoughts on this?

Besides, Kickstarter is really "American"...
Previously there was a Rwanda designer that reached out to me for his 1st-time deck design, and when he thought about Kickstarter, Rwanda isn't on the country list as well. Fortunately he had his cards produced eventually by Cartamundi (as far as I know), a Rwanda culture themed deck, but it's a pity that the design couldn't reach a larger audience due to his location and the limitations of Kickstarter.

I've certainly seen worse. Does anyone know why KS can't operate in Korea?

It certainly reminds me of all Bee decks, especially the Killer/Super bees, yet the breaking off of the honeycomb in the middle and at the borders are kind of unconventional. But with the remaining cards standard, it would need more to get me interested.

This should come as no surprise... I think they're garbage.

As you've even said, it's a reminder of the USPCC Bee decks, or E's Bee decks, or the Honeybee decks, except that those are all good decks, y'know...

This is my advice to any new designer of playing cards. I see this in a lot of designers work and think it is an easy way to spot a new designer. Whether that is a good thing or bad thing is up to you. It is very simple detail but it is one (at least for the OCD in myself) that makes a huge difference IMO of the overall design of a back. 95% of the time I use radiused corners on the back design. I do this because the cards themselves are radiused. However, the radiused corner of your design must match, and be concentric to the radius of the corners of the cards. If I was teaching a class on back design this one point would be a very important chapter.

My 2 cents. :)

This is a piece of very valuable knowledge to not only designers but also enthusiasts as well, and now I finally know why some first-time designs keep having that "immature" look to them

Thanks Jackson

Thanks Jackson
Not only that, now we know what's the correct designer term for this mistake: Lack of radiused corners.

The initials logo on the back of the card are reminding me of the Guy Hollingworth decks from D & D

Now live on Indiegogo:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bh-d ... ing-card#/

Don't know how to embed Indiegogo here, but here are some information:
(1) Same back design but marked for magic
(2) $23 a deck with worldwide shipping included ($15 + $8)
$38 for two
(3) 52 cards + 1 double-backer / Only Jokers and AoS are custom, the rest is standard
(4) 1000 print run, printed by TWPCC
