River and Stone By Beth Sobel

Unread post by justplaycards »

River & Stone is a new deck in production by Beth Sobel. Original artwork through out. Beth is a long time board game illustrator and artist who is either looking to drop this on Kickstarter or self fund. I have been trying to get her to come over here to talk to you. So hopefully she will.
In the meantime, you can sign up to her email list here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... g/viewform.

If this is in the wrong place I apologise. I just thought it would be worth sharing.

That is some interesting art. I get the sense that she would benefit from interaction here. And, of course, if we get an awesome deck to buy as a result, everybody wins!

Might want to have her start a thread in the Drafting Board section.

Hi! Thank you for recommending this forum, and posting! :) I'm new to playing cards (although I've used them my whole life, like most people.) My day job is illustrating board games, but I love the elegance and versatility of a standard deck of cards, so I figured I'd make my own. The prospect of running a kickstarter on my own is daunting, but I have been involved with many via my board game career, so I have gained some perspective from that. Yikes! Should the KS fail, I'm going to self publish, also through USPCC, and seek distribution locally.

I'm just finishing up Diamonds in the next few days, will post the full suit once it's done.

The theme of the deck is a slightly magical take on the Pacific Northwest, with the suits being:

Hearts: Ocean / Jellyfish
Diamonds: Forest / Fox
Clubs: Mountains / Pika
Spades: Sky / Raven

I'm impressed. The art is quite nice, and it's a transformation deck, on USPCC stock? I'll almost certainly be in for the KS. If the back, tuck, etc are up to the standard you've shown so far I can't imagine it failing.

Wow, this is beautiful! I like the artistic interpretation of the pip cards. Are the court cards illustrating specific people or is there some kind of theme they’re representing?

Excited to see the Spades. Beautiful artwork throughout!
I’ve been at this a long time. And I’m tired.

Was there ever any update on this? This was a deck I was really looking forward to.

EDIT: My bad, I see the drawing board thread. Eagerly awaiting this one.

He and Matt Groening... 😂
Someone wrote he lives above Gamblers Warehouse.
Plot twist - he is Gamblers Warehouse.

Very nice deck I might need to add. Something about this deck is calming. And seasoned members here know how much I like a good borderless back design. Hoping to see more from Beth in the future.
