To be honest, these are pretty cool and the price is good. I like that TXI seems to be branching out a bit.

+1 to all above.
TXI sells the set for what AoP would charge for one deck...
No wait... that's an artist and museum collab... *cha ching* $25 price tag at AoP - and people would be thankful to get them for $12 in the mystery sale, lol.

Way to go T11 in setting the benchmark for Collab decks and also pushing into more artist collabs which AoP had been dominating . AoP, hope you're paying attention!

Re: Shantell Martin by TXI with the Whitney Museum of American Art
i have seen better "art" being sold on velvet out of a van on the side of the road. i guess she must be relatively known for her scribbles and doodles to get featured on a deck of T11 cards.

I like it. Repeating courts should be punished with re-education camp though.

are they repeating really? she couldn't have taken 5 minutes and scribbled out some more drawings?

Not much to talk about cardwise. It is the same fookin' deck. They better have changed the words on the courts and the ad cards, otherwise it's A for intent; F for effort.
The originals might be my only regret buy I did in the last years.

do you mean that because her ''truly groundbreaking art and illustration'' looks like it could be done by a 1st grader. yeah yeah, eye of the beholder and all that.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 3:43 pm Not much to talk about cardwise. Re: Shantell Martin by TXI with the Whitney Museum of American Art
I never got and luckily never will get the sentiment that something a toodler does can't look fun and pleasing to the eye. I get that some might take offense with the groundbreaking in the ad copy but I'm not educated enough in art history to judge what Shantell offers truely is or was groundbreaking.
My statement... it's just that the decks doesn't offer me much more, than what I can get from e.g. hsbc's nice pictures, therefore I could have funneled the funds towards cards that are overall more exciting to me
. I still like them from an art perspective. Maybe hsbc gets the new version and treats us with his pictures again

Re: Shantell Martin by TXI with the Whitney Museum of American Art
What makes art groundbreaking (and that is not to judge whether this particular art is or is not) is not in how easily it can be reproduced, but that it was produced as an original work by the artist that in some way makes new use of mediums and/or provides new perspectives.
Picasso is always a good example for this. It certainly isn’t the difficulty in reproducing his art that makes it groundbreaking - it is that he envisioned and created it while no one before him saw the world in such a way as to do so.
Cubism, pointillism, etc - anyone can paint can paint a melting clock, but Salvador Dali thought of it first. I can do what Escher did, but I am copying him while he created it.
As I am not an art major please forgive my clumsy attempt - but that is the jist of it as best as I understand it.
I do know that the Whitney museum is a very well respected place, and if they think its art enough to give it as much focus as they have I certainly am not going to argue with them.
I myself like it, but don’t love it - its nice and interesting but does not enthrall me to buy bricks of it - I did pick up one of each more because of what it represents and supports than anything else, but would not have done so if I didn’t like it and find it interesting to a decent degree. Before the Pride version I was unaware of who the artist was, and thought it was a deck I might get but had no rush to obtain - plenty of other decks in the sea, and I don’t buy too many T11 decks now adays. Upon looking further into the artist as the Pride deck debate took place I found her to be worthy of a bit of representation in my collection.
