Thanks for the heads-up.

Ultra Diablo Blue Playing Cards

Here's a few more pictures of the Ultra Diablo Blue deck from Gemini Cards. It's being distributed via Murphy's Magic, so most playing card retailers should stock it.

It is a print run of 2500, with crushed stock, and features Toomas Pintson artwork and a style that looks instantly familiar from other Ultra decks from Gemini, but with a different colour scheme. It has standardish courts and pips, but with some custom pips and small touches much like the rest of the series.

I picked up this deck recently and quite like it. The style won't suit everyone, but there is definitely an audience for this kind of thing, especially if you enjoy card flourishing, as the success of the other decks like this demonstrates.

IMHO, the backs are crying out to be borderless. Pity only the Goblin series are borderless while the Ultra and Superfly series are bordered.

For the cardists reading this, does border and borderless backs make a difference other than fans?

Not sure I can consider myself a cardist, but here goes: The main thing that comes to mind is that borderless backs are less ideal for packet cuts and displays, because you want the packets to be visibly distinct and not blend together. If you create a display of 12 packets, you don't want it to look like you're only holding 8.

What Tom wrote. Borderless are cool for fans, spreads or moves like anaconda. Bordered decks better for packet cuts. One of the main reason brands that come from packet cutters (dealersgrip, anyone, missing) mostly come bordered. Same goes for simplistic decks - while often belittled and called effortless by collectors, their clean asthetic lets you focus on the cardistry itself and doesn't distract the eye.
