Re: Mortalis Machina by The Paper Gear Company
Thank you so much for sharing our project @kevork. We've been working on Mortalis Machina for a few years now. The mechanical box took us a long time to get right and more importantly, the right size. We spent a bunch of time getting it as close to a standard deck as possible, maybe a bit too much time. Hope everyone likes what they see. All comments are welcome. Like to see what you think.

SUCH A COOL BOX, but the deck is ugly. Tuckists rejoice.

Thanks @PiazzaDelivery. Glad you like the box though
. We do have more designs which we're working on. Hopefully one of those will be more to your taste and have your support later.

I'm not loving the fact they haven't chosen a printer yet. Budgeting mistakes leading to failure to deliver is quite common with KS cards and it's not like they've got a track record of delivering since their last project didn't fund. I wouldn't be willing to take the risk with the limited info provided. Nice tuck though.

Thanks @shunterino. I understand where you're coming from. We haven't fully committed to a printer for the cards yet but we have several options available to us. We already have the cost for the boxes so there's no surprises there for us when it comes to production. We are new on Kickstarter, but we are fully committed, hopefully proved by the fast that we kept going after our first project. We have already committed to developing the art and the box prototypes shown in the photos. What we can honestly say is we are in it for the long term, we can guarantee that we will produce and ship and that also we all have to start from project number 1 to get to project number 2 and 3. Hope you will give us a chance.shunterino wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 1:32 am I'm not loving the fact they haven't chosen a printer yet. Re: Mortalis Machina by The Paper Gear Company
Good intentions and a positive outlook are all well and good but they don't count for much in business. If costs go up, if you budgeted incorrectly, if someone gets ill at the inopportune time. We've seen it here plenty of times. The nicest people end up messing up and not delivering and it's usually because of things outside of their control that were actually well within their control. You might get lucky and things go smoothly, but you might get unlucky too and KS doesn't do refunds. Not having prices and contracts locked down is a big red flag for me. And on top of that, which card producer you use is a big deal to lots of people (especially here). If things go sideways and you end up using some small Chinese manufacturer, of course you will check them out and have glowing reports of how they fit your needs exactly but it will still leave people feeling scammed.thepapergearcompany wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 2:42 am Thanks @shunterino. I do hope everything goes well and it seems to be so far but in future it would really help to have details nailed down instead of asking for people to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Mortalis Machina by The Paper Gear Company
I just backed because I like the decks, and I'm bored. I do that a lot, I back for an early slot and then back out. What they say is right though, first project, goal set very low (maybe it's just me, but I think it's a sign of a quick and assured cash grab).
You'd maybe think the comments are harsh, but it is what it takes to prove yourself, as a first time producer.
And remove the signature on every post, it doesn't help.

Re: Mortalis Machina by The Paper Gear Company
Yes, going into a campaign with no printer plans is a big red flag to me it smacks of "lets see if anyone wants this" especially after putting so much time into the tuck.
There is another project that Im currently backing kind of heavy from a first time producer that there are warning signs screaming at me to at least reduce my exposure that Im ignoring.
Im too new to card KS to have gotten burned yet but its only going to take one. (definitely have backed video game projects that...didnt really work out....)

Re: Mortalis Machina by The Paper Gear Company
personally, i have found that with playing card campaigns this happens pretty rarely. out of 179 backed project there has been only one that has been a no show and one that took a couple years. there have been a few campaigns i have heard of have did not delivered that i did not back because i did not like the decks. i would say 1 out of 179 is pretty good.

Re: Mortalis Machina by The Paper Gear Company
Thanks all for the comments and for backing us. It’s useful for us to understand more about what people might be thinking of. We can really give you our word that this project will be manufactured and fulfilled to all backers 100%. We’ve fully committed to completing the brilliant artwork and the development of the mechanical box with matching artwork so, I guess time will show that we are true to our word. This part is really interesting to us as we didn’t expect people to think this way but that’s how we can learn for our future projects. Appreciate the feedback.

Re: Mortalis Machina by The Paper Gear Company
Instead of just offering your word, an easy and better solution here would be to just lock down a printer. Personally, I don't ever back campaigns without a printer chosen upfront.
